1) Yes.

2) Get a usenet client or use a web based service (i've used easynews for 7 years - autounrar - autopar - no need to download headers, direct download of "files")

3) http://www.panic.com/unison/ if you want a mac usenet client.

Thanks, easynews you say...

I've got 500GB in my gig bank, I'm a sporadic downloader. Their website looks s**t, but their implementation is bloody brilliant, retention is good and completion is excellent.

If you're going to be downloading a lot, then look elsewhere cause you'll get more for your money on a traditional NNTP provider and unison.

Just signed up today, and am having a bit of trouble, I'm finding that a lot of the files have been dropped (I assume down to retention?). Would I have been better off with giganews? 200 days retention + ?

^^I recently moved over to giganews and have been having no problems with stuff up to ~220 days old. Not needed any PARs at all so far, even on the very old stuff. Extremely impressed with GN :)

PS. Be sure to set your retention settings in your Newzbin user cp to roughly match the retention of your news provider. Otherwise you'll get loads of reports that are too old for you.

according to my easynews account, i have 189 days retention. there's no way that i'm able to download anything even half that age. What am I doing wrong?

The oldest item that I can currently download seems to be 8 days old. any more and I get an article 423/430 - no such article.

using alt.binz

f**k knows. You sure your on the correct easynews account for that? I'm on the $10 and retention is 50 days.

If you can see it on the web interface, you can download it.

So am I complicating things unnecessarily?

Do I even need a program like alt.binz, or can i just download the files through a web browser (safari)?

It only seems to be NZB's that I'm having a problem with now.

I'm on Giganews Platinum, and Newzbin which also comes with Newzxxx for the porno content. Apparently...

Sorry guys, all sorted now. Can't recommend easynews enough. They have a live support feature, 5 minutes and it was all sorted. Dr. Thompson ftw!

if people want an easy option with no need for separate sites to get links and download etc, have a look at usenext, i find them very good, search is built in to the client and good retention.

Or even better than newsgroups is a rapidshare account and a decent warez site

I moved to GN as well mainly for the higher retention. Very impressed :)

Im on giganews platinum now, 240 day retention, using newsleecher as a client and binsearch.info mainly as my search engine, no frills FTW!
