No cambelt receipt!

  172 berg, Fabia VRS
Ok my aux belt failed a few weeks ago and me and my very capable uncle replaced the belt, tensioner and idler with renault parts, i can remember him sayin that the cambelt looked brand new but when i look through the receipts that came with the car i cant find anything about a cambelt change even though it looks "brand new" im sure iv seen paperwork proving its been done but now ive got that annoying thought that it might fail and well force me 2 kill the clio!! Im sure iv got paperwork 4 it but cant seem 2 find it and it looks brand new apparently so shud i get it changed or believe that if it looks brand new then it must be a recent change?? Car feels fine by the way and i trust my uncle 2 spot if its worn or perished, Any help appreciated, thanks

Full stops, use them.

You cant just tell buy looking at it how old it is. If you cant find the invoice, you get it changed, simple as that.

Looking at the covers is a good indication but I agree with gaz, if there's no proof, get it done.

mine was done over 20,000 ago and had a peek at the weekend. looks like new so dont be fooled.well worth getting it changed.

Mine was down in the service book as been done 12k/2 years ago.I didn't trust the book so I had it done anyway, when the covers came off the belt and pulleys looked virtually brand spanking.Having it changed was money well spent though as I was always dreading going out in the car beforehand.

My car didn't have it done when I bought it and it was 9 years old :S It had only covered 34k though so no doubt this helped and the belt looked ok, aux belt was f**ked though. Not worth the risk though mate unless you can afford an engine swap if it goes bang.

You can't always trust a receipt as I found out! Aux belt failed recently and upon closer inspection at BTM the timing was out and the cambelt had been fitted incorrectly, this had caused excessive wear on the belt.

The receipt I got with the car showed the belts had been changed at a certain Northern specialist 2 years ago. Luckily Fred sorted it all out and it now runs spot on but I also have a lighter wallet!

I'd get it changed for peace of mind....

Out of interest, I have an 04 Clio only done 40k, but have no paperwork to say mines been done... Would you? Its an old car but not many miles through it..

Cambelt change on a 1.2 is very cheap compared to a 1*2. I got our 1.2 03 Clio's belt done at 70k and it was around £120 from memory.
