no power in 2nd gear

my car feels crap in all gears but doesnt pick up in 2nd at all. its a 1.2 16v 2002
could it be to do with my head gasket leaking oil?
it also only does about 280 miles out ov a full tank (£39)
what is up with it.

Must say that recently i've only been getting 350 miles out of a tank, might be due to the cold weather though or maybe i've had a lead foot recently.
The head gasket could be affecting things, is it leaking externally or into the cylinders?
2nd gear isn't to bad really for me big difference to pickup though when it comes on cam, picks up reasonbly well for a 1.2.

mine pulls ok in 2nd gear so its not a problem they all suffer if you know what i mean

do you have any oil in your coolant? i would think that if the head gasket was gone it would be crap in all gears as the engine still puts out the same power at say 3,000rpm regardless of what gear your in (i think?!) although ive not got much tech knowledge with cars some of the other guys might be able to help you.

on the fuel issue thing, mine is drinking it right now, seems to be ever since i put my induction kit on might just be a heavy right foot? lol
