Non mechanical noise

  Clio 182 & Saxo VTR
It seems if i limit my car (not intentionally) and change gear when i hit around 5k revs i get a high pitched noise coming from the "engine" although its not by the sounds of it a mechanical one (ive had myself and a race engineer in the car listening to this noise). It doesnt matter if the engine is warm or cold, does it both times and it seems just after limiting the car. Is this some sort of "stop it you tard" alarm?

Car is a 182, standard.

72k according to the service book? Id of thought if it was a belt you would constantly get the noise regardless of the conditions which as i described earlier it clearly doesnt make the noise constantly.

Cheers for that Rollo, didnt know that at all. Ill give Renault a call as the car has full service history from the main dealer so i assume it would of had it done but nothing is marked down on the book.

From what i hear, Renault won't actually know the Aux Belt will needed to have been done.

Ill probably pick one up and change it myself to be fair rather than run the risk of "yes no maybe" answers from Renault, any idea how much they are from Renault? Cheers for your help Rollo.

Im 99% sure it is something else, seems far too manufactured whigning alarm type noise which doesnt react to revs or speed in terms of tempo or pitch. just a constant noise that goes as soon as i come off the revs.

ill change the belt, eliminate one thing and it sounds like a job that needs doing anyway and check everything over on the car and see what happens.

It wasnt the aux belt. The 182 has an alarm which activates a buzzing noise over 75mph after a duration of time.

How do i shut this up?

  Clio 182 & Saxo VTR
Indeed. I was convinced it wasnt mechanica and after reading through my owners manual theres a small section that confirms it as well as a race engineer for Renault confirming it to me also. I need to find where this buzzer thing is now and pull it out, im very suprised none of the other 182 owners here knew of this?

IIRC there is a programmable alarm built into the ecu(possibly UCH) that sounds when you go over a certain speed, i think it is for use in countries such as Dubai where it is part of their motoring law to warn you when you go over the maximum road speed, in the UK it should be disabled, no other 182 owners know of it because their cars don't do it when going over 75 mph(all on a private road of course).

Have you had any work done at Renault lately on the engine ECU/UCH?.

If it is the overspeed warning that you can hear, perhaps the previous owner had it enabled at Renault for some reason.

Thats rather interesting, thanks for the reply. I have only recently bought the car and as far as im led to believe its had no work done on the car at all other than normal wear and tear and has been standard throughout its life. Ill try to give the Renault dealership he bought the car from a call and his local garage to see if they have anything on their system, last resort i will contact the previous owner but thats something i would rather avoid, its my issue, not his. Hopefully Renault can take it off, gets quite annoying when im driving down my private airfield. :p

Illl listen to that when i get home.

On a unrelated note, unless u say "keep me logged in" does this forum sign you out after a period of inactivity?

I think its back to the drawing board possibly because mine doesnt make that noise at all!??

That is obviously manufactured beeping, mine sounds like a cross between manufactured screaching and mechanica, ill get a recording next time im in it and show you guys. It doenst concern me though, i think i might just get someone to take a look and get another opinion.
