Pointless post.

One guy and his big head.

agreed....... just no need

if i didnt have to pay the insurance then i would go out and buy a 182 tomorrow (well would of bought one in the 1st place)
im more than happy with my 1.6 for the mean time.....

I ain't being a big head, am I slagging anyone off? No. Maybe I shouldn't of typed "cack" but for Renault to market the Dynamique (and by going on the brochure the 1.2 has the same suspension as the 1.4 and 1.6 versions) in a Clio sport collection is confusing. There are similar powered cars by other manufacturers that handle a lot better which are aimed at the younger driver:- Ford (zetec and zetec-s) Citroen (the old Saxo VTR, the C2 Furio, GT)

I agree that renault market the dynamique as a sport model when it really isn't but really its more for marketing than really producing it as a true sport hatch.

And the cars you've posted the Fiesta Zetec is pretty much a dead heat for the 1.2 16v in every area and on paper the clio is about a nanosecond quicker, though I wouldn't say the Zetec is really marketed as a sport hatch and the 1.2 16v definetly doesn't belong to be marketed as a sport but hey in the end its marketing and it sells cars.
The 1.6 is again pretty much a dead heat to the VTR and is marginally quicker than a Zetec-S and the 1.4 is somewhere in the middle. I would say that if anything the VTR and Zetec-S are marketed a lot more as a sportier car than the 1.6 is by a mile, the 1.6 is way more understated than both the VTR and Zetec-S although performance is similar.

Would need convincing that any of the posted cars are far superior handlers though.

this threads a joke - my 182s sooo brilliant.

wouldnt change my 1.2 for any of its 'direct competitors' in all honesty, and if i sell it it certainly wont be for a renaultsport.

1.2s can handle similar too a 182 if they get the rite suspension modded, aint all about performance as ull see most end up in scrap yards...

I have to say, and I again I harp on about the roads where I live, when I drive the Mrs 1.2 16v or get a courtesy car I find it a breath of fresh air tbh.

It's more comfortable, quieter, smoother but still has enough about it to be enjoyable. Cracking little motors. And hers feels strangely far better built than my 172. :s

In fact the best laughs I've ever had are me in my missus's car against my mate in hirs birds 1.2 Punto.

okay, let me really throw the cat amongst the pigeons:

Why are non renault clio sport owners actually on this site (CLIO SPORT.NET, not CLIO PONY SPEC.NET) in the first place?

Said as I duck down and crawl to cover....

Ha ha, I love being popular :rasp:

Only kidding chums.

lol clio sport models are 1.2 and above ;) Mine's in the clio sport range. Most of the people here though have cars in the Renault sport range, completely different :rasp: So why are renault sport model owners on this site in the first place?

Mine's meant to come with sports suspsension and interior, but no idea why it's sports. Ain't gonna make my car any faster :S

That said I drove a load of sh*t cars before I had my 172 and it wasnt something I thought about before that. As people have said age and insurance are big factors in owning cars, if people drive safe and build up their no claims their time to own a high iunsurance group car will come. I dont think theres any need to rub peoples noses in it! Theres nowt clever about been 18 and paying 3 grand for insurance just to own an RS, better off biding your time and paying a sensible amout for the car. IMO you need some years of drving experience before you drive a 2.0l hatchback anyway.

Some people have more desire than other's to get into higher performance cars.. Just because they choose to pay extra to do it.. then thats upto them.. I wouldnt judge them of being 'clever' or not.. thats just a rubbish comment really.

My gf has a T reg 1.2 8v Clio. Im 25, she is 30. The car is used to ferry the kids about as its 5 door. I have the 182, she has her car. She is on my insurance (£670 full comp with all mods declared) and its gr8. She drives the 182 now and then, its weird as she gets in the car from her car and instantly changes her style from driving miss daisy in the 60bhp 1.2, into the 182bhp monster overtaking everything and anything she can...

All about needs really, we cant afford 2 182's, tho if we could we would. She wants a mini as the next car, tho the T reg clio is prob worth £2200 so a little gap in values for now...

Nothing wrong with a 1.2, i had a MG Metro, then a XR2, then a XR2i then a 1.2 16v expression, had that for 2 1/2 yrs then bought the 182. Insurance company were going to refuse insurance on me but i had owned a clio before so they were ok with it...

I read the manual when i got it and it said not to go above 3500 iirc in everyday driving, 1st to 4th gear. I didnt go properly above 3k for about a month in the 172 when i first got it, as I thought i would hurt it.

oh dear i always take mine above and beyond 3000+

I've got a 1.2 Clio Courtesy car. All I can say wallowing suspension, too light steering, etc....... Cack
and although mine is a 1.4 so therefore does have sprts suspension and the poor turning circle.. that is one stupid thing to say.

its only insurance really thats holding me back :(
Im feeling that.. insurance is a killer

  Clio Renaultsport 182
I'd just like to point out that a 1.2 Clio got me into Renaultsport in the first place.:D

Had one a a courtesy car while my R19 16V was in for repair and thought, mmmm, that's a funky little car, wonder if they do a sport one.....? (Sorry, was a bit out of touch with new Renaults at the time.)

Turns out they do a 2.0l one

Anyway, compared to other cars in the same price/performance bracket that I'd driven it impressed me. Funky little car if you ask me.

Trouble is, during the 12k service I didn't half miss the 182....Kept bouncing off the rev limiter in every gear wondering why I wasn't going anywhere...but that's not the point.

If you're not fortunate enough to be able to afford a Renaultsport then it's still a fine little motor.

So don't slate it - you should be sticking up for all Clios :rasp:

at least my 1.2 can pull away with full throttle without having a fit of banging from the engine bay ;);)

as for not taking it over 3,500rpm mine had done 116,000 miles when i had got it most of which were under 4,000rpm and now its done an extra 4,000 miles getting redlined all the time when its up to temperature and it just takes it, its running better than its ever done now maby because its well run in i dont know?

  RS-1, Bebop, CTR
I used to own an mk1 1.2 RN, it had only 11k on the clock when i got it and it was a really pleasent ride, a perfect car for a beginner, it was comfortable, handling was ace (for that kind of car, of course), great economy (obviously), practicaly no maintnence costs, very reliable...to sum it up, it was a car with a capital C.

I also owned an mk2 1.6 16V and it was an awesome little machine too...you could easily be as fast as 95% cars on the road...and the suspension is definitely different than that of 1.2 ;) ...

All in all...I love all clios and will forever be a fan, but since i've been driving them for almost five year, my next car probably won't be a clio. But I never say never...when it comes to hot-hatches, the RS clio will always be on the top of my list, but if i would be buying a low-budget, get-around-town car, it would most likely be an mk1 clio...

  Veilsided MR2 Rev3 Turbo
Having owned a 2004 1.2, and now on a 2005 1.6 dynamique i have to say the feel of the 1.6 is certainly better than that of the 1.2. And no my 1.6 wont handle as well as the RS's but i love it. Beats Saxo Vtrs and 95% of the other chaviots about. Plus 1.6 clio's are as rare as hell. I have only ever seen 4 other 1.6's since i got into clio's 2 yrs ago. So they certainly are exclusive around me. Plus the faces of idiots that try to race you asumming your the more common 1.2 is comical, as they pull next to you then see the 1.6 16v badge down the side. But as said before a little drop of 45mm and any body role would be gone. Had a Renault 5 1.4 before my clio's, dropped 50mm on 15's and that thing would go around roundabouts at silly speeds without moving an inch. Sure the same would apply to any no RS's clio.

Thats where you are wrong, if you READ the brochure/price list you will clearly see that the 1.4 and 1.6 had "Sports Suspension" and "Sports Steering" where the 1.2 Dynamique doesn't.

As for the Zetec S and the VTR, it's like comparing the 182 to the Fiesta ST and the C2 VTS.

I had a 1.6 16v dynamique ac before my 172 and it was a cracking car, couldn't fault it in anyway. Mine did most definately have a sports package it was an option at the time of purchase and it added an addition £500 to the price of the car. It had a sports suspension set up, the steering was slightly heavier and it had Continetal conti -sport tyres instead of the Continetal Premium H tyres.

I drove a 1.6 privilage without the sports package and the difference was more than noticable.

My 1.6 went back to renault twice in 2 years of ownership both times for a service. My 172 has been in 4 times since January, and its not due a service for another 6k! (that doesn't mean I want to get rid of it tho!!)

I have to say that for the quality of the car, the level of spec, price and performance from each and every model in the range is significantly better than all of the marques competition.

I currently have a Modus 1.2 courtesy car - Its W*nk!
