hey fella welcome to the club,
things to check obvious bodywork is in good condition, service history and that its had a cam belt change. and your basic overall condition of the interior etc, and dont worry if the steering wheel worn thats common on the mk1 172.

what mileage should the belt be change?

i know all about worn steering wheels, curently have a zetec-s, with hardly any blue left on the wheel  lol

to be honest, i don't mind paying that extra few hundred quid.....cos it'll cost em more than that to get my p/x up to forecourt standards......

For your info, the cambelt change is 72k OR 5 years. UNDERLINE THE OR. Because rubber hardens with the atmoshere. Its worth getting done, as a snapped one if you don't know, will probabally mean a new engine as it will shag all the valves etc.
