Norway 2025

Thought I'd throw up a quick post.
We did the Norwegian Fjords last week. Never been on a cruise before but I enjoyed it more than I expected tbh.

Some photos from the Canon.

I love Norway. I get to go to Bergen and Oslo a couple of times a year with work. Bergen in particular is fantastically pretty. The people great, food is right up my street and despite being a grand a pint all of the local brews are cracking. The air always smells so fresh and clean too.

I’d love to do a Fjords cruise but can’t see us doing it until the bonsai human is much older and we can leave her at home to go.

The ship we were on was huge. Loads for the kids to do and tbf, they didn't moan that much when we went on 3 decent walks.

Beer was quite pricey like you'd previously mentioned but I got a flight/plank in Flåm which I think was about £15... 5 beers, probably totaling a bit more than a pint 😂
I looked at brining some home but it was nearly £10 for a 330ml and it wasn't even a strong one...

The ship which was hard to get a decent photo due to the size of it!

This had 583 steps to a viewpoint of the waterfall.

Iona mate.
Superb ship, was in some pretty big seas and didn't feel much.
Laura said she heard people in the next cabin throwing up. I just slept through it😂
You can barely feel it on something that big

We went dolphin watching on a little boat and the combination of blazing sun with no shade and the choppiest water made me feel green🤣

I wasn't sure if you'd been yet or not.
Did you do the Norway one too?

The in-laws are going on the Aviva in September to the Canaries.

It was an absolute bargain for what we got. I think Laura is looking at one for 2027 now 😂

Nah we went on a medium cruise last year on the Arvia mate

If I do one again I'd rather do it as more people and I'd book the £500 extra package that gives you the free parking, onboard spending and choose your room

We chose our cabin, had free parking and £110 credit so didn't do any onboard packages (or at least the in-laws did when they booked it, so I'm not sure if that cost them extra or not). I think it was £2200 or so for the 4 of us.

We spent £210 and £100 of that was the last night with a bottle of Whisky, a bottle of Gin and f**king teddies from the shop (the guy was an absolute bell-end who knows how to guilt trip you in front of your kids...) the prices weren't too bad for the drinks IMO.

Yeah I didn't think it was too horrendous on board. Check the prices next week though mate, it's exactly 1 year ago since we were on our cruise. The week after ours the pints went from £5 to £6.50/£7 each, robbing c***s🤣🤣

We spent the most on the steakhouse on board, it was absolutely mega. £30 for 2 courses for 2 people and the food was amazing. We did it a couple of times because we got sick of the buffy

We only ate at the buffet 3 times.
Once when we got on, then me and the daughter grabbed breakfast, and then the last morning before we were off the ship to come home.

We ate the the restaurants most meals. The food was decent too but I said if we do it again we'll go to the restaurants where you pay extra for a couple of meals to see how good it is.

Punk IPA was £6.25 per pint. I got a couple of bottles of doom bar at £5+.
Pissed me off when I seen the waiters unpacking 4 packs of Guinness which were marked as £5.99 on the box and selling them for £5.50 per can!

I bet they lowered it the week before because they doubled the price over half term 😂

This looks amazing. Might have to pick your brains on this as we are wanting to do the same for our honeymoon. We got a P&O brochure to see what it was all about but couldn’t work it out as all that gave was a deck plan of the boats! We are wanting to do it in the winter when it’s more snowy but also do whale watching which from a google is like November to March time?

Some amazing photos.
I'm doing it (again.. ) in August, and we're stopping in Flam this time so good to see the route you walked there as I've not booked to do anything there.

What lens were you using on the canon to take the landscapes? I've got an old canon dslr but lacking in a decent lens (and skill.. but we'll brush over that)

Think this cruise starts end of March & stops in October.. if you're not taking kids they do a cruise that goes further north, I fancy doing that but it's an Adult only ship from what i've seen.. Just pop the destination & months you're thinking of into the P&O cruise website & it lists whats available

Might not be able to do anything like that if you've got the baby with you. We looked at some RHIB rides and couldn't do it as the minimum age was 13! You might find somewhere who does it though but we didn't look that much into it.

It was the Canon 24-105 that was mainly used although some of the shots are from the Sigma 50mm.

The walk was nice tbh, some quite big steps up to the waterfall but my 4 year old managed it without being carried.

Lots of the excursions were sold out when we looked so didn't bother. Certainly wouldn't be paying the P&O prices as the are almost double.

Can confirm the baby is not coming with us! Haha. It will be just the two of us for this as you say want to do the things like that and make the most of it. Need to take a proper look at it but thinking 2026 sometime for it.

We just wanted to know what was available for excursions to see what we needed to pay for and what we needed to organise ourselves. But the brochure I got was awful for that. We are going to a travel agent in a few weeks (can't do anything spontaneously now with a baby!) to go and ask about it all as we never do these big holidays so no idea what is what! The walks you did sound like a good idea, a few hours out and about but nothing too mental by the looks of it! But showed your picturess to the wife and she is like yep that is what I want to do.

Probably better to look on their website, then if you choose a cruise you can see what excursions are available, or check the itinerary and see what indipendant companies offer.

This is the one we did although they do change the destinations occasionally.

I used the canon 50mm when i went last year which was ok for some photos but not great.. I do like having 1 small lens to walk around with so (not knowing anything about lenses!) would the 24mm canon lens be a good idea? looks very compact & probably more suited to scenery? or just use my phone!

Excursions, yes P&O were a fair bit more than booking direct with the companies! last year i booked a glacier trip direct with olden adventures & again booked a different excursion with them for august. Was thinking of a RIB ride.. but the cost of that for 4!! will see, might get one on the day if we fancy it and there is availability.
I'm quite happy just being there & walking around, love the place.

Yeah I think the Canon 24mm should be fine. Most of my shots were 24mm. I took my 150-500 with me and hardly used it. Was a heavy thing to lug about most days too 😂
