Not quite sure I follow the logic here...

Ok, here goes:-

  • 182 goes into garage for 2 days
  • Get a 1.2 Mk3 Clio as a courtesy car
  • Need to contact my insurance to put the Mk3 Clio reg on my policy for two days.
  • Need to pay an additional £25?
Why? I've paid the insurance on my 182 and clearly the 1.2 is a less risk car. Why couldn't it be covered in those 48 hours? I've paid for 365 days-worth of cover on a higher risk car already. I can't possibly be driving the 182 at the same time as the 1.2 - so one car - one cover.

The technical blab from the insurers was that I didn't have a 'vested interest in the courtesy car". From that, I take it that they would think I would rag the god-damn thing everywhere?

Wouldn't a deposit method be better? Say, they take £100 for example off your card and then credit it back on the safe return of the car?

I wouldn't mind them asking for the £25 if they gave me a Meggy 225 or something. As it is, I just interpret that as another way of the insurers milking more money.

Bastids. :dapprove:

lol I bet going from a 172 to a 1.2 is a bit of a shock.

Its stupid..how can you poss be driving the two cars at once!

How come the garages insurance doesnt cover you? I didnt realise you had to insure yourself on courtesy cars?? Or am i missing something.

Just had this conversation yesterday with my local Reno dealer. I had to pay £15 extra on my insurance to cover me on the courtesy car for a week. (even though I had the car for a day) The reason being is that your car will still be covered on your insurance even though the garage say its on their insurance. Their insurance will only cover if the place burns down or something similar to that. So you are paying for an additional car to be added to your insurance, hence the extra charge.

You can go on the dealers insurance but the excess is extremely high and recommend that you do it with your own insurance.

Claim the £25 back from the dealer, Ive asked for the refund and they just filled my car up with petrol so cant complain.

Most insuers cover curtousy cars if your car is in for warently work (not service) for free.

I'd ask the garage to cover the car under the normal policy.
