simply the answer would be no. to do it really good you need to sand, then primer then colour. ive never tried a colour straight on the standard silver it won't bond as good as if you did it with primer
really you could just have a go and see what it turns out like.... if it looks a c*nt then sand it all down and do it properly. it doesn't take that long really, have a go you don't know untill you try matey.
