Now a member and I have a question...

  Peugeot 306 HDi
Thought I'd pay the £5 to join and then make the most of it by asking a question:D

Any recommendations for tyres for a 1.2 16v Dynamique? Something good for handling at a reasonable price (i.e. £50 or so each if that isn't unrealistic).

Also is it worth swapping the 7 month old fronts to the back and having the new 'uns on the front?

Thanks!

Hi welcome,

I think based on my trying to find some this morning £50 for a quality branded tyre is not easy, where are you ?

  Peugeot 306 HDi
Ashford, Kent mate. Well it is only a 1.2 so don't need owt too fancy, but just appreciate something good for the handling.

ah thats not my patch, I found some Michelin Exalto 2 at £55 a pop at a place in Milton Keynes, probably a bit far for you.

Yeah it is I'm afraid. Cheers anyway. Read good things about Vredesteins - are they any good?

No data on that from me I'm afraid, but theres lots of knowledge on here.

I'm sure someone will be along in a mo.

btw. best tyres on the front ;)

If you go for 195/50s instead of the more expensive (for some reason) 185/55s I can get Eagle F1s for £45 fitted. A lot of people on here rate them and I think they're a brilliant tyre, quite a soft compound but they stick like s**t to a blanket.

i had yoka A539s on my 1.2 and they did the job well, bit slippy in the wet but nothing more than the F1s i have on the 172

Don't get Gislaved ones with the polar bear on the sidewall!
I ve got Conti's on my steel wheels, think they were under £50 each.

195/50/15 would be my preference in Continal premium contact £50 50 each or so fitted from balck circle.
Regardless of engine size you still need the car to handle well.

They are standard 15'' Dynamique wheels MillerLight.

Right, yeah I saw Continentals are used by Renault on new cars Edde and I did look at those on Black Circle. Look pretty good.

Any other recommendations? I shall look around for all the ones mentioned and see what works out best price wise. They need to last 'cos the car will be taking me to Leeds Uni and back a couple of times each year, plus I enjoy a good hard drive every now and then:)

  Peugeot 306 HDi
They look pretty good Al - thanks I'll look into that. Fitted at home as well, that's pretty good!

Best tyres to the back!

Its a myth that the best should goto the front, but would you prefer have some understeer, or oversteer?

  Peugeot 306 HDi
To be honest Faxo, although I enjoy driving the car, I'm only 18 and do a relatively low mileage in a low powered car, so it doesn't matter too much. I guess slight oversteer would be the preference. Just out of interest, what do others prefer?

Michelin pilot exaltos are streets ahead on the tyre poll . Probably because there are alot of 182 owners on here and they were fitted as standard , plus they are a very good tyre in the wet and dry .

Check out mytyres as well for your size of tyre . Probably as cheap as anywhere tbh . Usually delivered within a couple of days . Then you'll need to find somewhere local to fit them .

DO NOT FIT VREIDESTEINS!

They are shite.

In the fitting centre they will give out these leaflets about how well they fared in a autoexpress review.

I think they bunged AE to say these kind thing as the tyre is absolutely awful.

In the dry they just understeer for England (well Holland in this case) and in the wet I didn't even bother pushing it as they were so s**t in the dry!

This is on my 1.2 btw.
