How do you expect to insure a 1.2 with an engine conversion when you've just written off a car?

Save the money up, build up some more no claims, then just buy a quicker car.

i would rather pay more on the insurance and be happy with the car, also have a bet with my bro who can have the best car bye xmas, he has a shitty 206

Matt Black seel the 172 kits for £1.5k+ Vat its not that difficult to fit but when you add new cluctch cambelt parts alone are about £2k (might as well change the bits when there out and easy).
Its not that difficult to fit basically undo the subframe suspension engien mountd ratorr and remove it all. Then strip the whole dash baord out refit the doner UCH and looms put the dasm back together refit all the new engine radiator and whle subframe with suspensions etc. Assuming you've the right tools a week you could have it done.
As for just buying the engine and fit it yourself well you need the gearbox in which case unless you want to go for modied driveshafts get the hubs, wishbones and shock and brakes. Then to get the engine to run good get the radiator etc then to make the engine run you'll need to have a custom loom made to the 1.2 ECU and have it remapped to run the 172 its not impossible but why bother might as well pay a bit extra for the looms etc and not have the hastle.
An Mi16 could be made to fit very likly but why bother the 172 is about the same price and along its £1.5k+ vat vs maybe £800 for the Mi16 and box (the Clio box won't mate up) you'll need custom shafts so say £400 there and you'll still need to make a custom looms an a £350 or so mapping down to make the 1.2 ECU run the Mi16 engine. In the engine the 172 is easier. Also you'd need custom mounts making for the Mi16 the Clio mounts are the same and bolt on.

Good idea 172's are very cheap now.

I know, I've already suggested this but he wont accept the fact that the easiest and cheapest way to get more power, more than he is ever going to get in the 1.2 is to buy a mk1 172. For the money he is talking of putting into his 1.2 (£4,000) it is a very feasable and best option.

  clio 1.2 16v (facelift)
the problem i have is i goy my clio on finance so i cant sell it, only had it 3 months so will lose alot of money on it,

  172 cup'd extreme
I had a 50 shot nitrous on my 1.2 16v it cracked the plasic plenium first making oil leak everywhere then it shot a piston that was only after 5 bottles of gas.

Having finance doesnt stop you selling or trading a car in. As for the money loss its hard to say, if you paid dealer price and chop it in at a dealer then you probably will as you will have bought high and get offered low. If you sell it privately you might lose very little.

Sorry but i have to do this...LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

1.Sell your car, buy a fast one.
2.Keep your car, buy a 1.6/172 engine.

Basically don't waste your time and cash trying to make a slow car fast, it simply doesn't work. Be cheaper to drop a bigger engine into it.

Couldnt have said it better myself

i got my clio on finance about 3 months ago so i cant get rid of it, so what do u all sugest i do?
i cant leave it as it is, its driving me mad,

do a full bike test, and buy a sports bike and experience some real speed, anything you spend on that 1.2 wont give you what you really wont from it which is power and speed. all of which you can get much cheaper from a bike at our age.

You paid how much?!?! £5995 for a 2002 1.2 16v 3 months ago!

Could have bough a 172 for that, a MK2 even!!

I only paid £5.5k for my 03 1.6 and that was a year and a half ago.

i thought that!!!

i'd chop the car in againt a phase 1 172, as these are around 4-6 k depending on condition and milage. No way is it worth spending 4 k dropping a 172 lump in your car. Get a phase1 172, and you'll get the interior and a/c etc

job done
