Number of previous owners?

When looking for a new car are you put off by alot of previous owners?

Was having a discussion with a mate we came to conclusion that if the service history stacks up then shouldnt really matter?

Whats peoples views?

say 04 182 with already 3 owners (this is made up by the way)

Say it is an 04 plate 182, its nearly a 4 year old car mate so not really too bad, for example its been pre reg'd then i have it, thats really only one owner then i sell it to you, its really only its 3rd etc..

doesnt put me off in the slightest, I rarely get put off by milage either

simply down to the condition and how the car runs, and of course SH

Was random when i HPI'd it it said 3 owners, then when a other place HPI'd it it said 5??

Last bloke had it for 2.5 years so can't have been to bad.

i'd be wary if it kept changing hands regularly. there must be a reason why its usually a money pit so people sell them on again quick

I'm the second owner of my 52 plate 172.

Owner no.6 of mine which was in 2007 had it since 06 as a 2nd car but as he was in the paras it was garaged for most of the time, then it developed a misfire, so he sold it to someone local to me cheap(turned out to need a new coil, so they had it a month to make a quick buck), then i had it. So other than the last few changes it works out 1 per year.

If the car is straight then it wouldn't bother me.

Mine has had 5 or 6 owners (I forget) and it's been great. The first owners in total put 33k on the clock, then I bought it and it's now on 77.5k

not so much how many owners on the car in particular but how many owners in what period.

Many owners in a short space of time would suggest the cars nakard and theyre flogging it.

Otherwise it doesnt bother me.

difficult thing to go by, can't let a minter fall through your hands based on a high number of owners, but its worth taking an even closer look at that car based on that imo.

Im the second owner of my 182 - got it on 16k

see im the kinda guy who would be suspicious about that, i would think well the first owner has thrashed it for 16k and punted it, but thats just me, i could probably work everyway lol

Not hugely, so long as it has been well looked after. Also some cars like sports cars or convertibles have a larger number of owners because if they are not hugely practical the novelty wears off quicker.

Daft thing is my car has technically two previous owners but it's really only one. On checking the V5 I noticed the first owner was the supplying Renault garage and it was owned for something like 1 or 2 days (from first day of registration ie when the car gets it's plate with the garage till the transfer to the new owner) before it went to the real first owner who had it for a number of years until I bought it. Ridiculous that it is 2 owner on paper when it obviously only 1 prev owner, someone maybe screwed up the paperwork?

A lot of vees have a quite a few, the most i've heard of was ten on an 02 reg when I was calling up, the seller just said the number like it was normal too:dapprove: I didn't view it as they'd only had it a short while.

Mines had two, the dude I got it from had it for four years


Tbh though the amount doesn't really matter too much, to me it depends on whether or not they've looked after it or not.
One owner is often a load of rubbish too, for the above reason.
