O2 3g coverage changed today?

So this morning at work, I decided to send a text, and on my phone screen there's a little "H" up the top (sony ericsson) which I normally only get when I go to bigger towns.

Is it HSDPA and does it mean o2 must have switched on 3g in my area?

3G on o2 was not working all day yesterday in the Glasgow area, not sure what they were doing to make it unavailable.

Interestingly I've always had really bad 3G coverage in work, whereas today it's been excellent all day... result.
