Found an inferno 182 for sale, if I said it was local and less than a mile away I wouldn't be lying!

Is there a way of telling if a car has cup suspension? I know the wheels are anthracite but these can be bought at a later date, so any definite ways of telling?

Thanks

I don't as its one of the private sales where people just stick a for sale sign up in the car. Guess how much it's up for....

54' plate
87k
MOT march 2014
2months tax
cambelt needs doing
Scorpion rs192 exhaust
service history for the last 3 years before he started servicing it himself

It definitely hasn't got the cup spoiler or splitter but has anthracite wheels....

Well it's up for £2300 but I'm aiming to get it for around £1700/£1800

Seems to be in good condition and it's inferno :D!

Is there any way to tell if it has cup suspension?

54mm bolt spacing non cup pack suspension , 60mm cup suspension .
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...-Spacing-amp-How-to-Measure&highlight=spacing

You could check the springs for the red and white dots of paint , but the car might have had aftermarket springs since it was new . The cup spoiler and splitter were a separate option to the cup suspension and anthracite wheels , and like you say , the anthracite wheels could have been added at a later date or even been refurbed in anthracite paint

Thanks for that!

Is it possible to measure the distance without having to take the wheel off?

Is the seller saying it has the cup suspension ? If so i'm sure he wouldn't mind you whipping the wheel off the gain access and measure it . Especially if he isn't 100% himself .

According to Fred you can measure this :

full lock and look at the toothed wheel behind the brake disc on the driveshaft, if its 7mm thick - non cup, ifs its 15mm+ thick - cup, pretty obvious!

There was no description on the car, just a price and mobile number.

I will try and give the toothed wheel a look at, should be obvious enough if one is twice as thick as the other!

But it also says a lot of them have the cup spoiler/splitter which this one doesn't...... :p

It might even be a cup , no xenons , poverty spec interior i.e. no leather/alcantara seats . I'm not sure if the cups had aircon or not ? I think they might have in the 182's but no climate control . I'm not 100% on that . Someone else might come along and clarify that .

There were 2 cup pack options . One being slightly lower , slightly stiffer cup suspension with anthracite wheels , the 2nd option was the splitter and cup spoiler . As you know , the splitter , spoiler and anthracite wheels can easily be added at a later date . You'll have to whip the wheel off for a definitive answer .

Like ya say . Factor in the cost of the cambelt and aux belt service , so a good 500 quid off the asking price . If he's desperate to sell i'm sure he'll drop it .

Ahh sorry, I didn't mention but it does have the xenons, climate control, auto lights/wipers so it's definitely not a cup.

Hopefully, if I can get it for £1800/1900 I think it will be a good deal :)

Well just got back form viewing it.

Turns out the car has had the belts replaced but the dephaser hasn't as it was silly noisy. So basically said it is going to need replacing and straight away he has dropped the car down to £2000, going to give him a couple of hours and then offer £1800 for it.

I checked the toothed wheel behind the disc and this confirmed it has cup suspension :D

Also the fans were running at full blast, how much is it for a new resistor?

If he dropped that easily , he obviously wants shut of it . You want to pay £1800 , offer him £1600 then he might meet you in the middle . If you offer him £1800 he might say £1900 , hagglings a game lol .

That looks a little high to have cup suspension on it, but It could be the floor. Nice though!
Scary how little these are worth now.

Yeah that's true, going to give him another 45mins before I get in contact with him.

There's a link to the car if you want to have a look.

Hard to tell from the pics , not the best quality , but obviously you've seen it in the flesh . But it looks in good condition , even the steering wheel hasn't suffered the dreaded melting . Offer him £1600 and see how ya get on . If you don't ask , you don't get eh ;) Height wise it looks ok to me .

Well the ride was firm but then again I've not been in a standard 172/182 to compare the difference.

Well just putting a message together now and will see how I get on - fingers crossed!

Let us know how you get on with the sale mate ! I was considering selling mine a while ago but it's 04 reg and has 98k , doesn't need a thing had belt dephaser exhaust discs etc at 95k but judging by this it's worth £1500-1700 !

For that type of price I will run the car through the floor before that lol

Well plenty of messages have been exchanged and he wouldn't budge on £1900. Ideally would have liked it for £1800 but I couldn't get a 182 in inferno really for any closer to the house.

Hopefully picking it up sometime during the week and can't wait :D

I have viewed that but it was specifically how to identify if it had cup suspension as its easy to change/spray the alloys
