Offset advice

  Astra 1.9cdti XP

Im about to get some new wheels in 17" for my 172. I believe the standard offset is ET48.5 but the closest the wheels I want come in is ET35.

Will they go on without any problems? I know Geoff had ET40 with no problems so will 5mm make that much difference??

I thought it was ET42, or is that non 172 clios? Fred has ET37s on his 1.2 which would make a 5mm and his is ok, so i presume it will be ok.

Thing is if your wheels stick out further than the arches its illegal!

Can someone tell me the offset and PCD of my clio (2002 1.2) please. What would be the recomended ET be so it brings the wheels out level with the arches?

Cheers,

-Rob

Right. Ive just checked my spare wheel! Under the cap it says CH 48.5, now i dont know whether this is the offset but I would imagine that it is!

I have also found out that the wheel that I want (Speedline Turini) comes in an ET40 offset so I would imagine that this is alright!

The clio cup on the other hand has ET35 offset so that is where the wider track comes in. So everything else is the same! Since the cup doesnot have modified arched I would imagine that anyone whoe put 17s on is going to experience some scrubbing!

Speedline Turinis come in ET 42 and ET 35.

I have 17" Turinis on my CUP ET35, lowered 40mm and they have not caught anything yet (been on for a week now)

Hi,

I was checking my spare wheel

the offset is actually ET -48.5 (negative)

I have a set of aftermarket wheel with ET40 on. found the track is the same as the original wheel.

Ignore the offset on the std wheels, if you want to run 17s (regardless of whether its a 172 or not) get your 17s in ET34-ET40

My 17s were off a 172 and theyre ET37

172s wider track has nothing to do with the ET of the wheel

Geordiepaul

My 17"s are still available but if you think the ET is to far out then I can supply new speedline turinis and tyres with a closer ET if you are intersted.

Let me know

Paul172cup was just wandering if you were the member who posted photos of your cup with 17 inch speedlines on it? if so would it be possible for you to e-mail me one or two pictures please cos i am seriously considering a set myself, but never got a chance to save your pictures you posted last time.

Also what sort of prices should i be expecting to pay for a set of these with good quality tyres on them? I see that kwikfit are doing 40% of tyres until the end of this month.

Cheers.

The original Clios had a 36 offset. The newer ones are a crazy 40-50 offset (I dont know what exactly) meaning the same kind of wheels selection problems that used to only plague Vauxhall owners with their freaky high offsets! Basically if the car is designed for say a 45 offfset and you put an ET35 wheel on it, they will stick out by 10mm, not taking differences in rim width into account. Will cause slightly higher strain on the unsprung components but the main problem will be room under the arches. They may need to be rolled to stop them catching, particularly at the front.

Thanks geordiepaul - are you thinking on a set of these too or are you looking at other 17s?? Wot do you guys think about putting speedlines on a 172 instead of a cup?? Do you consider that copying the cup and therefore sad?? Well i think the wheels look quality and am off out today to get some prices.

Yeah Im thinking of getting a set. I like the fact that it wont really look like an after market wheel as I will be able to get the Renault centre cap from the Cup. Dont care much about people think I copied, they are a quality lightweight wheel! Let me know what prices you get and I will compare them to mine. Also what offset are you considering?
