oil everywhere

  A45 AMG 406BHP
172

i went over a bump and something caught. not sure what. but carried on driving. was fine.
and was fine all last night.
and then today was driving was perfect(no running problems at all)

then i come onto drive
and i was going to jack my car up(and leave on axle stands as refurbing wheels)

then i noticed oil was everywere.
underneath the sills
subframe
shafts etc
only on one side.
the cambelt side etc.

the car still runs spot on.
but its leaking when i turn the engine off.

its a criminally bad oil leak.
its looks like its dripping from the top down onto the sump
its like the area where the master clyinder is but where theres a plastic casing

picture taken from a old thread.
its from that plastic bit area

i havent a clue what it is.
but its still leaking.
i personally think its the headgasket.
but still runs fine.
any ideas?

The cambelt, Sounds like a seal might have blown, I'd remove the top engine mount just to confirm, you should be able to see something. New Cam/aux belts anyway from what you've said :(

pulled the VVT pulley off to see if the seal was leaking behind it, pretty sure it was...

However, the oil in the pulley looked quite metalic which concerned me. Pulled the seal out and noticed the cam journal didn't look right, so pulled the rocker cover off

the sump has a plate underneath
so its possibly been leaking previously and then been starved at somepoint.

Ouch, hope you manage to get it fixed soon mate and doesn't work out too costly :(

I'be better change all my oil levels etc tomorrow now as last time i did it was last weekend and all was ok but reading this makes me paranoid now.

Lol

f**king hell thats bad  New engine then Dan or are you going to strip the bottom end to for him? Guessing it wouldnt be cost effective though with the shite floating around in the oil through the pump etc?

im dropping a 172 cup engine down to him tommorow morning rich , so i presume danny will be fitting the engine for him into the car !!!
