Oil leak?

  Clio dynamique
So basically, my car needs too go in too the garage for a new clutch, which has resulted in this awful burning smell every now and then, but today I walked past my car and noticed what looked like oil or something under neath the car, bearing in mind it hasn’t rained for a few days I was very confused, so I opened car up and had a look in and noticed what seemed to be oil all over my gear box? Now I feel slightly stupid as this was on the car when I bought it almost a year ago but it was my first car and the guy convinced me he’d spilt it when he was filling the engine up with oil, so I’ll let you decide and if it’s an oil leak what do you suggest I do?

I thought mine was bad, that's more than a drip! Could it be coming from the breather hose?

idk mate, i dont have the best mechanical knowledge, from what ive seen there is a gap where it joins on top, idk if thats normal tho?

Right so basically I’ve got a picture of the area that seems too have opened up? Idk if it’s normal tho, and then a few more pics of the surrounding area

Careful use of Gunk, dont want to be sloshing oily residue over your clutch

  dan's cast offs.
Get it steam cleaned. Only way to get all the crap off.

Just get whoever does it to be a bit careful around the fuse box.

So could oil getting into my clutch plate be the reason my clutch doesn’t always engage properly and sometimes doesn’t always seem too have full contact too say? I’ve had this leak ‘leak’ for almost 11 months now, also would it deffo be a leak due too the seemingly fresh oil that’s on it? As in the little pools of oil you can see?

No expert but I'd imagine you experience clutch slipbmore than anything else, @bloke will be able to tell you

I’m not sure on the terminology, but say hill starts the car really struggled, id have the bite, and it would seem too disappear, I’ve driven many other cars before and not had the problem so it’s not my clutch control?, also took it too the local garage this morning, guys a good mate, cleaned it all for me started the car up took it for a spin, it’s not the gearbox after all?but a engine leak near one of the gaskets or something, near the exhaust I believe, so yeah he reckoned a £20 fix for the part, plus a little for labour, idk if that’s mate rate or not though as didn’t bother checking, any ideas if that’s will sort it?

How well does your mate know Renaults?
Most likely leak there is from the cam end caps. Anything else is more involved. But it is a 5 minute job if that’s what it is.

I don’t really know mate, I’m not the most knowledgeable with the mechanical side of cars, give me the electrics and I can normally get that sorted fairly quick, I know he’s a decent mechanic, I believe he specialises in nissans or Toyota maybe? He’s worked on my car previously and done a good job? As far as I’m aware and too my knowledge lol

With that amount of oil I'd say it's likely to be the thermostat housing. Spray the area down with degreaser, Jizer is quite effective, then check across the bottom of the thermostat housing for seepage - there is a gasket on the part so it could be damaged or has been removed in the past and not replaced.

The gasket in question is in the top left of the below picture:
