one quick question though -when i put my foot down gently the gearknob moves suggesting loose engine mountings/bearings -is this common or more serious??

All valver gear sticks move a fair amount under acceleration. The best way to check for engine and gearbox mounts is to accelerate hard in 2nd and without holding the gearstick let off the throttle, if it jumps out of gear the mounts mainly the dog bone mount need replacing. If it stays in gear then they should be fine.

You can get an uprated dog bone mount to reduce greatly the amount of movement. Or so Im told. But yeah its common not to worry really.

I got a valver for sale, little bit more than you suggested but youll save yourself in the long run!!

and with what products?
I usually use 1 bucket of soapy water, 1 sponge, 1 hose pipe, 1 leather shammy.

Then if its nice out and Im not bored I will use some of 1 bottle of turtle wax polish.

Only joking fella, Ive used all sorts of different things to clean and polish mine with and never noticed a difference. Elbow grease is what its all about!!
