Ok to ditch heat shield ??

My heat shield decided to drop down on to the exhaust just above the bend where the back axle beam is last night.

Dont know how but the retaining pin to fasten it up is no longer there !!

This leaves me with a problem of fastening it back up. Went under the car and there's no way of strapping it up so ive got 2 options:

Get it welded up [ if poss ]

Or just get rid of that section.

Problem is its right next to the fuel tank and im worried about heat from the zorst causing a potential fire hazard if i ditch it.

Is it ok to ditch the shield ?? or is it best to leave it in place ??

bayliss found out the hard way about a falling off heatshield! his car is now ash grey with wire seats and melted wheels

Its not really the shield its self, just the pin thing is errrrr not there anymore so there isnt anything to bolt it up to !!

No where even to tie wrap / wire it up near by either.....its like no mans land under the car at that point hahaha
