Old Fords are cool!!!

What rubbish! Any front wheel drive 80's ford, lower it with a cheap spring kit and go round a wet roundabout just 2mph too fast. I've never worked the controls so hard in my life. Fun isn't the issue. Snobbery is the issue. People can keep emptying their deep pockets into old RWD escorts while the rest of us have cash to spare enjoying the FWD options and getting complimented by everyone else but the purists.

This attitude is why the good condition 80's FWD fords are getting thin on the ground and some parts are getting like hens teeth.

So if I offered you a day driving either a sorted mk1 fiesta around, or a sorted mk1 escort around, which would you pick?
Hell even if I offered you a go in my 3 door, surely thats more fun than a mk1 fiesta?

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree, trying to convince me to think of a mk1 fiesta as cool in the way a mk1 escort is would be like trying to convince a Metallica fan that Hansen are pretty hardcore too, lol

I've ran out of energy to argue Chipster. You win. Fwd Fords are not cool.

You're changing the subject to suit your opinion again! Why the hell would you choose a Fiesta over a Mk1 Escort or a Mk2 or a Sierra Cossie! That simply wasn't your point. You're comparing apples and oranges now!

You said Fwd Fords are not cool, that's simply poppyc**k!

That seems unlikely, I will expect an edit soon when you change your mind.

Oh, here it is:

They arent cool IMHO, and im putting them next to cars which I think are cool to give that comment context.

Cool old skool fords to me are mk1 escorts, tinas, 3 door cossies, anglias etc

  330i. E30 Touring.
They seem to have reached some kind of ultra fanboy status where people will pay silly money for anything older than 15 years old in reasonable nick.

That's mainly because they're rare and i appreciate that will make people want to buy one. they're only rare because they coped so badly with the elements, lol. When was the last time you saw an Escort, Orion or Mk3 Fiesta on the road. Now think when was the last time you saw a S1 106.

Just because something's expensive, doesn't mean it's any good.

Rust bucket old sheds.

I'd rather a VTS.

Again the point is missed. This isn't about these cars being good. An old Fiesta wouldn't see which way a Vts went, everyone will be looking at the Fiesta thinking wow that's cool, people will look at the saxo and still think chav.

Who ever said something had to be 'good' to be 'cool'?

A car can be an absolute shed and still be cool,
also if anyone can find me a nicely sorted old Cortina, Mk1/2 Escort or Cosworth for £2k,
then i'll take it over the combi van. ;)

I agree that the above old RWD classics are cool, but that doesn't mean that all fwd Fords are sh*t though.

All the Driveshafts and boxes of a Cosworth.

1/3 of the power.

The RS2000 4wd escort is actually compeltely different drivetrain to the escort cosworth, to the extent that the engine doesnt even sit in the bay the same way around, the cosworth is a rwd box with 4wd added, the rs2000 is a fwd box with 4wd added.

They arent even the same floorpan in fact, there are no transmission or steering components common between the two. An escort cosworth is basically some body panels that look like an escort draped over a sierra, the rs2000 though is just a ford escort with a prop to the rear as well.

Literally have nothing shared at all mate, so you couldnt be further from the truth.

From my point of view, I remember XR2s when they were new and driven by housewives and young businesmen, and they were pretty unispiring and uncool cars to me, vauxhalls of the same era were far better to me then for example.
Then I remember them at a few years old driven around by all the chavs of the time and they were generally rubbish cars.
Now they are owned by old men, and still arent inspiring or cool to me, although I now appreciate them as "timewarp classics" when they are mint.

This is where my saxo parrelel comes from, because how I felt and feel now about XR2s is how you feel and will feel about saxos in another 15 years time, if you arent a big fan now, you wont be in 15 years either, just cause its got older doesnt mean its got any better, lol
