Old Vs New

Had to take my car (97 1.2 Clio) into Renault today and have been given a courtesy car (new shape 1.2 16V clio), and I think I prefer mine.

I thought I would prefer the newer one, but I dont, well other than the engine being a little nippier.

The driving position seems to "girly", all high up and uncomfortable. Nothing seems to be in the right place, but that might just be because I am used to mine, and the mirrors are awfull.

Also, there is that thing in the back which holds the middle seat belt that just looks crap.

Oh well, be glad to get mine back later on, with a new manifold.

Im definately feeling that stupid seatbelt thing, (thankfull not on the Cup!).

A guy at work has a 1.6 new shape Clio and occassionaly we have to move cars in the car park at work.

Didnt think the difference between the Cup and Dynamique would be as big as it is... its MASSIVE. And thats without even getting any kind of speed up.

Im only making the comparison between 2 base model 1.2s, I dunno what the better models (172s, Billabongs etc) are like because I havent driven any of them.

And some more things I just noticed as I took it back.

The headrest gets in the way of checking your blind spot.

My knee was uncomfrtably rested against the bit where the leccy windows switches were.

The mirrors were crap, with that stupid partition down one side of the drivers mirror, everything seemed out of proportion.

Got mine back now, so its all good.

Did cost me £298.

Oh, has anyone else been charged for their curtesy car? They charged me £8.50 for insurance.

Lol, they said it was a standard charge for everyone.

But, they didnt ask for driver liscence or anything, I thought they might get a bit sh*tty cos I have 5 points and a total loss.

theres always a softening of things as manufacturers have to make more space in the cabins, adhere to safety regulations etc. I think theres a lot to be said for owning older cars, you get more for your money for starters. It doesnt suit everyone, we need a newer car so we know its gonna start ok all the time etc. Fair enough been a 172 it will probably burts into flames on the driveway but there you go.
