All vehicles responding to a 999 call still have to obey traffic rules! There supposed to be good drivers, but lost control!

So say a member of your family falls ill, or your house is on fire, or youyr being attacked, do you wnat the services to sit at 30mph and wait for red lights to change?!

Yeah, Get a grip, they have to get there as quick and as safely as possible, think how many emergency calls get answered every day, obviously driving at speed there are going to be some accidents and you are guaranteed to hear about them, but you will never hear about the thousands of emergency callouts that don't result in an accident. Cop drivers are the creme de la creme

well he was responding to an emergency,,, if it was one of your family being attacked would you want him to obey the road traffic rules and drive there at 30 or 40 mph ?? we have all lost it driving at one time or another none of us are perfect,,,,,,,,,,,, apart from me !!!!!!!! lol

What a load of shizzle! Yes emaergancy services are highly trained but that doesnt mean that accidents dont happen, of course they can speed when on call to an emergancy, people would potentially die if they didn't. Sharkaroo if you think emergancy services should stick to speed limits when responding to a 999 call then you must be retarded:quiet:

I think the point people are tryng to make is that this is on a 40mph road, so not a built up pedestrian heavy area, a police car is bright colours, with flashing lights and a piercing siren (to pedstrians).

If I was crossing such a road i think i would be alert enough to hear the siren!

Rubbish!

Police officer's have certain exemptions from the Road Traffic Act (along with the Fire and Ambulance service). Each incident is examined internally on a case by case basis, to see if the excess speed was justified. Some forces have a "+20 Scheme" in place where it's generally acceptable for patrol cars to exceed the limit by 20mph. Obviously road policing cars, firearms units and certain other circumstances, such as a probationary cop requiring assistance, are different.

However, the responsibilty is placed on the individual driver and if they get it wrong, then they can still be charged with dangerous driving, etc, etc.

He was *trying to* get to a emergency call, and had an accident, this is very different to that guy who got let off having a Jolly, speed testing his new car on the Motorway, where he should of been prosecuted. At least no one was hurt by the sounds of it, but accidents happen.
