opinions on this?

http://pistonheads.com/sales/1434381.htm

i emailed him about setup on my 1.2 clio and he replyed.

in respond to your ad i was running a clio 1.2 8v with this conversion on it is my test car to set up my carbs i supply to make sure each one set works. there is a video on youtube of this conversion working search clio on r6 carbs part 2. i noticed gains of around 20 to 30 bhp engine limiter removal of 1,000 rpm so your engine revs out to 8,000 acceleration changed by 3 seco

video of a clio he has done

Sounds rough as a badgers arse and it that makes +20/30bhp i'll eat my hat! Doubt theres any benefit to raising the limiter either without a way harsher cam than stock and other work either.

so waiste of money then? id be interested to see how he gets them running? i thought throttle cable conversion / stand alone ecu etc are needed aswell as very good mapping. all for £300 ^o)

Ignition will have to be taken care of but down the fact that they're carbs you don't need to worry about fuelling (electronically anyway) could be using something as cheap/effective as megajolt.

Short answer though, total and complete waste of money. Theres no point in even considering "tuning" a 1.2 engine let along the 8v, you've probably heard that a million times but its true as the day is long i'm afraid. Personally theres no real point in doing it with a 1*2 either for the cost for benefit ratio, boosted stuff is the only point where is becomes really viable imo. Where the outlay actually gives results.

my cars a 16v. will there be gains? or will they not be noticable? believe me even a little boost in the 1.2 will help the petheticness.

will the carbs be hard to set up? running rich lean etc?

honestly, and i know you may think different, its said over and over again, there is no point tuning a 1.2 engine, i decatted mine sports exhaust and induction kit, it made a marginal difference.

so i put a 1600 in on bike boddies, some say im mad messing about with a 1600 but for where i live it is more than plenty. and its not a shy car either, but its alot and i mean alot of hassle, i have been converting my car non stop for 6 months and its still not 90% there yet!!!

short answer, waste of time money and effort.

rag the nuts out of your 1.2, buy a bigger engine

im only being honest since i have done it. with your engine your gonna struggle to get it running on carbs anyway, injection is the way to go, but then you need an ecu and a custom map so with management and mapping its over 1k easy.

or you buy a complete 172 engine and loom for 700.....

i know what i would choose.

(btw the only reason i didnt put a 172 engine in mine is because i am resticted to a 1600 by my insurance policy)
