Orange N80 out of contract

  A4 Avant
My N80 came to the end of it's contract about a month ago. I want to give the phone to my girlfriend. Is there anyway of getting it to accept her O2 sim card? It's got the original firmware that shipped with the phone if thats any help??

A guy at work said he didn't think the N80 could be unlocked in that way. Just wanted to check here first.

Nope on second thoughts cant do the N80's or any N series. They are locked by that silly Provider Network Passcode or whatever it is called! You can ring up the service provider and get an unlock code usually...They HAVE to supply it to you but there might be a charge for this... Orange PAYG customers have to pay £20 iirc

Oh and just so ppl dont believe me this is from the Nokia website.....

Queries concerning network unlock codes and restriction codes

Network providers lock handsets to their networks in order to protect the investment they made in you as you will have received the handset at a reduced price. Therefore the only people that are able to unlock the handset from the network are the network providers.

If you need a restriction code you will need to contact your network provider, these are the people who hold this information. They will be able to give you this info if you give them a quick ring.

Unlocking the phone by any other means is illegal.

Please note that the restriction code is the same as the unlock code. If the codes supplied by your provider do not work it may be due to a fault with your handset and you will need to take it to a repair centre.

Unfortunately we don't have any access to these codes here
:-(

search the forum for sometime similar, i posted a guide on how to debrand the N80 to make it generic, accepting any SIM.

Not sure what the thread is tho

Debranding the firmware won't make it network unlocked. And BB5 phones cannot be unlocked in the way most others can be, you'll need to contact orange to get the unlock code they'll charge you about 20 smackers afaik (might be free actually not sure).
