Origin B2 Vs Snooper S4

Hi people,

I have read quite a few threads on Radar Dectors and have noticed that the Origin B2 seems to come up alot as a winner for most people here.

However I would like a Radar Dector but would also like it to be portable between cars.

How would you rate the new Snooper S4 vs the Origin B2. I cant find any reviews on the S4 at the moment as its so new but as its the latest detector out does that mean its the best ( I know the S6 doesnt get a super review from you here due to the database, will the Snooper S4 be any different ) ?

Would the S4 be able to get a sat lock, and pick up laser guns etc through the small window at the bottom of the Clio 172 UV windscreen , which I know you all use on the Origin B2. ?

Also I have noticed that the Origin B2 has a range or 2000 meters for most cameras where as the Snooper S4 has a range of 1000 meters, are these realistic distances to be able to slow down ( I would think so ) and are they accurate, ie no false alarms.?

I would like to get the best one, ( ie most effective and reliable) but remember I would like somthing which is reasonably portable between cars..say within 5 mins. ( I know the Origin does have an option to buy an extra cradle package to fit in a 2nd car but at GBP 99 !, where as the Snooper S4 is just plug and play)

Any ideas or further information would be gratetful as I am ready to make a purchase I just cant decide between the Origin B2 and the new Snooper S4.

Thankyou for your assistance

The origin b2, doesnt really take that much to wire it up, I could remove the full wiring and refit in 20mins maybe?

For me, it was a toss up between the S6 and the b2, so therefore Id say maybe that the S4 is a class below? The S4 uses the same database as the S6.

The b2 was irrrestible for me at 320 all in, so thats what I went for.

At the end of the day, its down to which is the best deal on the day you buy :)

B2 wins. You dont have to fully fit the wiring, and it will be transferrable. You can just tuck in wires and hide under the car mat etc. You can also attach the B2 to a PDA for sat nav ;)

Thanks guys , So I take it the B2 is the baby to get then...Any one used a Snooper S4 before I buy the B2 ??

One thing with the B2, dont enable the accident blackspot warnings, otherwise youll be beeping every other mile :)

Ok Origin B2 now fitted. I mounted all the components in the same place as this fella... http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=5&TopicID=65234&SearchPagePosition=1&search=origin+&searchMode=allwords&searchIn=Topic&forum=0&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Searchhttp://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=5&TopicID=65234&SearchPagePosition=1&search=origin+&searchMode=allwords&searchIn=Topic&forum=0&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Search

The only difference is that I used Velcro strips to mount the GPS and the Origin unit, as I thought this would aid removal when the car is eventually sold and the fact that I can move things around later if I so wish.

Installation took about 15 - 25 mins with most of that time being spent trying to keep the wires hidden underneath the dash near the steering wheel, and pushing the wire from the laser mount under the front of the dash and around / under the windscreen. I found the wire from the GPS fitted nicely in the groove along and underneath the rear seats and then was easily tucked under the rubber seal around the door frame, and exited just under the level where the steering wheel is.

Only went out for a quick breeze around the block, but achieved sat lock within 2 mins of pulling of the drive, and it picked up the nearest gatso to me with ease, so I guess a succesful trial.

With have to take it out for a longer trip, but so far very pleased with the B2 and the ease of Installation, no " Handy Andy " holes anywhere !

I used Velcro strips too. The sticky pad which came with my B2 didnt stick, so i got some Velcro.
The sat lock took about five mins the very first time i switched the unit on, but now it only takes about 30 seconds in the morning.
