Original Speaker Wire Colours

  182
I'm amping a set of front components in my 182. Instead of attempting to fit new speaker cable into the doors I'm going to just use the originals, and cut them as close to the doors as possible. I've tried searching for a while now but can't seem to find a wiring diagram. What colours am I looking for?

Thanks :)

Not sure if this will help but below is the list of speaker connections on the back of the stereo unit. Maybe you can identify them from that?

Brown connection (C)
Track 1 + rear right speaker
Track 2 - rear right speaker
Track 3 + rear right speaker
Track 4 - rear right speaker
Track 5 + front left speaker
Track 6 - front left speaker
Track 7 + front left speaker
Track 8 - front left speaker

Thanks. I did have a look at that but didn't quite understand what it meant. It seems to miss out front right and rear left :S

Yeah I see what you mean. I'll have another look at it and see if I can make any sense of it.

On a secondary note, can you not get the colours when you remove the speakers?

Preferably, I would like to run new speaker cable to the doors but there doesn't seem to be a neat way of doing it. I'm not cutting each of the wires and re-soldering them and I don't want to use the screw holes above and below the rubber clip (water leak?).

As haynes manual.....
Back of HU on loom,
LH front (can't give you polarity sorry) : Beige and pink
RH front (polarity again, don't know, sorry) : Green and brown

These are also the colours that go to both the mids and tweeters too. So the cable colour doesn't change basically.
Apart from the inside of the doors which is white and white with pink trace iirc.

I think the wires change colour once they go though the door. I found this for the door side:
Front LH Speaker

Beige: Positive
Pink: Negative

Front RH Speaker

Beige: Positive
Pink: Negative

Rear LH Speaker

Beige: Positive
Pink: Negative

Rear RH Speaker

Brown: Positive
Green: Negative

I now need the car side....

Does anybody know the colours once the wires come into the car from the connector?

Is there a pin layout diagram that somebody can point me to from what pins are what that connect into the standard head unit?

I have searched quite a bit but to no avail. I am trying to pick up the left and right speaker wires just as they come into the car then cut them and wire the new crossovers in drop the wire for the new tweeter down to them.

This did seem the simplest way of upgrading the components in my trophy until I discovered the colours in the door differ from what is run from the hu.

Bump on this as im looking at doing exactly the same. The colour of the wires in the door seem to change once they reach the block after the door?

Want to do the same as above, wire components in using the wire that is already there.

i cant remember colours off top of my head but if you d/c the plug and look at it from the wire side from inside the car they will be the centre column ph1 its the bottom 2 pins,ph2 its the 3rd and 4th pin up from bottom

both these will have 2 set of wires coming into the pin,1 slightly thinner than the other as they go direct to the tweeters

Is it pretty simple wiring in the crossovers using the stock wires and standard head unit?

Obviously need to wire the woofer, and tweeter, then back to the headunit?

Want to get it all in there whilst im waiting to get a new headunit and that alpine booster you suggested.

What I did to work it out, With my headunit, I unplugged the wiring harness, then used two spare bits of wire, and just pushed them into either side of both the connectors, then only one speaker at a time made a sound, depending on which wires in the harness I'd 'joined' together, I knew which wires they were!

If that makes any sense lol.

if you cut the harness before it goes through the door you can use the OEM wiring to the woofer and also for the supply of the crossover then feed your new tweeter cable up the dash

So do you mean locate and cut the woofer wire after the plug on the right in the image? Then wire that to the crossover?

Where do I get the supply for the crossover?

Do the stock tweeters wire directly to the headunit or is there a "stock" crossover of sorts?

the right hand block has 2 wires going into each pin, 1 wire then goes up to the tweeter, the other from the same pin then goes to the stereo which gives the output whether its + or - from the stereo

both pins are the same
