Its not a daft move, it will save you more over time, when the older car costs more in repair bills etc. and the fuel will save you aswell plus insurance, tax, parts, servicing etc etc etc

Looks good.

called stating some facts. hes gone from a 2.0 to a 1.2, anyone can see there will be savings to be made. its a smaller engined car, with smaller brakes, less expensive parts etc. just common sense really

As said not really going to be a big saving... my 182 gives me 28mpg average and £390 to insure. My mum's 78bhp 1.4 Fiesta (also 57 plate like your new car) gives her 30mpg and costs £460 to insure. Both running 16" wheels too so no saving on tyres (apart from she will go budget lol) and her services, although cheaper are every 12 months rather than 24. Cambelt is every 10 years though lucky!

But as long as you're happy

I love these money saving threads.

same here, guess if you think you can save money by going from a 1.2 from a 2.0. :S Has the op worked out that the mk3 is a lot heavier so his engine will have to work harder= same MPG or worse

Must be all in the op's head! lol

This thread astounds. How much are you going to save realistically? The only real change would be insurance but only if you were paying a couple of grand for the 182. Apart from that, driving a 182 sensibly would probably save just as much money (remember that you have to use the throttle a lot more heavily in the 1.2 to say get it up a hill compared to a 182) on petrol and tyres.

Still, it's what you chose to do. Look after the new one.

Op posts topic on a public forum, get's flamed for a silly idea and then has a paddy?

Just out of interest how much did you get for the 182 and how much did you pay for the 1.2?

FLOL!! So he's not.

I just associate pictures. They both had blue cars in their avatar....

iFail. :(

:slap:

I know Dubdub and he's looking for long term savings not just a car over the summer... so say 3 Years down the line when his 182 would of needed money spending on it, cam belt etc plus depreciation he would be better off. Plus He drives like a 1.2 Owner :race:

I on the other hand love my Cup... Current average mpg 28.3. I went from a 1.6 mk5 Astra (commuter) to my 172 Cup toy... Didnt really save money... Its too damn tempting to throw money at them!! Oooh shiney!!

Surely depreciation will cancel out any savings too, my 182 looks to have not lost that much in the last year or so but a newer Mk3 will surely still be losing money at a faster rate?

Depends, he got a bargain... plus for a younger driver or someone wanting a more eco friendly car, (as alot of people seem to be wanting at the mo) I don't think he will lose much at all.
