Reasons to buy the MINI
1. Looks way better than a Clio
2. More fun to drive
3. Doesnt have a terrible driving position
4. More street cred as youll be driving the coolest car on the road.
5. Holds its value better

The Cooper S is nice but id rather have the Cup. And whats that about reliability on the Mini ??!!
And IMHO the Clio looks much better than the BMW.
The only reason id choose a MINI is for the resale value in a few years. But then i dont buy a car thinking about what its going to be worth in a few years....

Williams is a Clio and it will hold its value better than a mini.
Strombas reasons for NOT buying a mini (i did think about it)
1. Youll be a BMW w*nker
2. Overpriced performance (blew away a Cooper the other day in my £999 CRX)
3. They are big but called a mini (only Germans could get away with this)
4. I hate stripes down cars (dodge viper stylee)
5. Waaaaaaaay too many on the roads (hardly ever see a 172, never seen a cup)
6. Williams hold their value better
7. They are gay
8. Dont like Germans (dont like French either but Williams is British so thats my excuse)
9. Minis are driven by Mr im not cool, but if i get some expensive clothes and a hothatch people might think i am

When I was buying the 172, I was also looking at a Cooper S.
The Cooper was really well put together, and looked excellent inside and out (though I was not too keen on the very plastic metal effect dash inserts)
I then test drove a 172, I actually preferred the interior of the 172, it looked sturdier (although I understand that is far from true), and the materials looked of better quality, particularly the seats.
The second thing I noticed was the engine, the Cooper S had good pick up and felt really punchy. However, the engine in the 172 sounds so much better (or as my wife described it, much more manly). Also the kick you get in the 172 at around 5000 rpm is fantastic, there was no such boost in the Cooper S, which I thought actually made it quite dull in comparison. (This may have been beacuse the Mini dealer came with us on a test drive and wouldnt let us push the limits of the car),
The clincher for me was the pomposity of the BMW dealer. They just could not justify the price difference between a 172 and Cooper S of similar spec. They didnt even know you could get a Clio with an engine bigger than 1.4 (compare this to the Renault dealer, who couldnt praise the Cooper S enough). The Cooper S would be so much more appealing if it wasnt sold by BMW.

The cooper s is good, great even but its not a mini its a bmw.
The mini was a revolution think of what it did for the car industry. the bmw version like most sequals is no where near as good as the original.
The mini will live forever!
I agree with the first bit of this and I red lined the CooperS works on Sunday with the dealer in the car!!!
The dealer was fantastic, he was very interested in my 172, he said that the 172 was a very sort after car and asked lots of questions about how it compared to the mini.
I liked the Mini I drove and would have one if they werent so dam expensive.

The only new mini I quite like is the Cooper S. Although seems bit slow in standard trim.
Next door neighbour has a Cooper. Since owning it had 2 seats replaced, paint peeled, new gearbox and then new clutch! At this point the car was rejected and replaced.
He has had it back for 3 months. Headlight has bust. Seat gone again! Wouldnt start twice.
And I just think they look weird. He had got some BMW kit that he blagged for free though! I will take a picture and post later

Thats what really struck me when I had a blat in one. F***ing awful.
I think the mini buyer is just someone who cant afford a TT!
I used to like them b4 everyone got on the bandwagon.
