Overclocking help

T

Right bit of a long shot but hoping u guys can help. Today I've clocked my system as follows

FSB = 400
Vcore = 1.4
DRAM - Auto
PCI-Ex freq = 100
PCI freq = 33.3
vDimm = 2.1 v

Set the memory timings to 5 5 5 12 which is stock i believe

Basically, in games i can play for a minute then i get graphical glitching, which is just black lines flickering.
What's causing this? my specs are below

Asus P5b vanilla, latest bios
e6400
1Gb of PC2-6400 800MHz Dual Channel GX XTC Gold
Freezer 7 cooler

According to coretemp is runnin at 43 degrees in windows, which i dont think is too high considering its running at 400 FSB

So, any ideas whats causing the glitching?
cheers

Tom

Prob the PSU, clocking the system will mean increased voltages and the PSU prob can't supply the power the GFX needs causing the flickering. Seeing as this is the only thing you've not mentioned, assumed its not brilliant.

The PSU should be fine....its a Hiper 480W modular, got good reviews. Any other ideas?

What GFX card is it? 480w isn't a lot if you've got a decent card. The Asus 7900GS I've got states that you need min of 400-450w to be able to use it and thats just an average card now days.

x1900xt.....says on packaging only needs a 350W to run standard, so dont think its running out of power :S

checked my bios temps....50degrees when not OC'd!!! hows this? i got a freezer 7 pro and it appears to be seated correctly ie doesnt move :S

If you've overclocked by FSB have you locked the FSB to AGP ratio in the bios.. if not you're effectively overclocking the Graphics card as well and might explain the graphical glitches

Oh rite, what setting is that under?

Sorry mate not done any overclocking for a long time and I'm still using an AGP motherboard and graphics card... to me it looks like the PCI-E frequency in the list in your original post

Am I right in thinking that you haven't overclocked the Graphics card? Either way I'd test lowering the clock speed off the memory and GPU on it, just to test if it resolves the issue.

As I've said not overclocked anything in a while and I've got no experience with PCI-Express graphics card but just checked and 100mhz is the default setting so it shouldn't be causing anyproblems.

Firstly them temp's are a bit on the high side, but nothing to worry about, try a torture test with Prime95 for an hour or so, then see what your temps are. If you want to lower your temps a little more, re-seat your CPU HSF with improved compound, Artic Silver is really good.

The graphical glitches will most likely have nothing to do with your CPU OC, If i'm reading it correctly, you have left the RAM voltage as auto, you need to set that at the correct voltage. Also make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

When I oc'd my graphics card I used to get a similar problem.

A good test is to run 3Dmark03, this program uses graphical process's from both your graphics card and your CPU, so run it and watch which one is causing the problems.

Cheers for that guys. I havent touched the graphics card, and it was fine before i overclocked. The reason I left the DRam freq as auto is because I'm not sure what it should be set at....its 800Mhz ram, but the settings are something like 820 and 1020, so if anyone can shed light on it i'll be grateful.
I'll run prime tomorrow, see what happens. The temperatures are concerning me a tad, so some arctic silver may be in order

Cheers
