Overclocking Problems...

  Fiat Panda 100hp
I have decided to give it ago, and only with the stock HSF i only did it a little, then I set the BIOS to 'Load Performance Settings' so I did this and my CPU was running much faster, but then I enabled something I shouldnt have, called 'Dual Channel Mode' I enabled this and then the PC wouldnt start, so I reset the BIOS and am back to square one.

Could anyone tell me what I need to tweak in the below settings? or what I shoud do?

Also, to clear the CMOS i took out the battary and replaced it, but I have a red jumper that says Kill CMOS, can I use this to do the same job, I would really like a switch on the outside to do this.

Thanks for any help anyways.

no, 2 kingston 1GB, there in the same colours for dual channeling and the other is a random 256 out of me old PC.

I would ditch the 256 and use the matching pair in the right slots for dual channel. If you have mismatched sticks the chances of it working are slim. What processor you running?

I would get dual channel working first, that should give a bump in performance before you overclock anything. What chipset is the motherboard?

its a RD480-A939

I think the mem is already in dual mode, is there anyway of knowing for sure weather it is or not?

If you still have the 256 in then it won't be. Usually it says on the bios post screen. Google an app called CPU-Z, it will tell you as well.

Ah ATI crossfire. I don't have any experience of this chipset, so I won't guess as to what settings you should tweak!

the 256 will more than likely be slowing down your system. If its older memory its likely to be lower speed higher latency stuff which just ends up bringing your good memory down to its speed as a result and you loose dual channel as well. Taking that 256 stick out will give a noticeable increase im willing to bet.

And can i get a look at whats inside the frequency and voltage section as that is what usually needs to be adjusted to overclock on all baords.

how do you check if your memory is definitely running dual channel? also is it possible to check that HT is enabled on the cpu?

thanks

On intel CPU's when hyper threading is enabled in device manager multiple processors show up. e.g if you have 1 hyper threaded processor there will be 2 cpus in device manager. Is this what you mean by HT?

Nah, that only means your running a dual core CPU (pentium D possibly), if your looking to overclock you will be looking to change you clock multiplier, FSB and voltage to the CPU amongst other things.
Check out this website http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/

If dual channel is disabled I the BIOS then I wouldn't have thought it would be running dual channel, I'd check you motherboard manual for info on the BIOS menus and settings.

Definatly not running a dual core pentium. It is a 3.0ghz P4 HT. Used to get the same with my old work machine 2*3.2Ghz HT Xeon showed up as 4 processors switch off HT and it showed up as 2.

Ok, im going to take out the extra stick of RAM and just use my GB, then make sure its in dualy. Then I can start my overclocking again :D

If I set the BIOS to 'Load Performence' settings will this do the overclocking for me?

HT will show 2 CPU's in device manager / task manager. There logical CPU's not physical ones so there not as quick as a real dual core system but do have some benefits in multitasking office apps.
