Pagefile on Exchange

C: drive is getting pretty low on our exchange server, on other servers running 2k I've moved the page file to another drive to free up some space.

Is it ok to do the same on Windows 2000 running Exchange? I'm assuming it's the same but want to be sure.

Yer I thought so, I never commisioned it, just noticed C was pretty low so investigated

no no no pst files self destruct lol

all the c: drive should have on it is windows exchange prgram files etc but all the edb files should be on their own raid array

Yer none of the EDB stuff is on C otherwise it would have died already

pst files should be avoided. if they're stored locally then you've got recovery issues. you get people storing them on network drives then taking up more space than if they were left in their mailboxes. exchange is a database. someone sends a file with a 20mb attachment to 50 people you got one copy of that attachment on the server. you get everyone moving those messages to psts then you've got 50 copies of that attachment. bad move

We don't use PSTs, I can't see why you would with exchange?

Surely it defeats the object, like d_182 says.

as mcbunny says, if pre 2k3 exchange, make sure you do a periodical backup via the normal 2k backup prog (to tape drive whever) as it dont clear the log files untill you do (and you end up with some HUUUUUGE logs, we werent even using exchange for mail and had 30 meg free on c

i found out the other day id stopped the full database backup (still doing bricklevel tho) ended up with 4gig of log files ! quickly changed that lol
