Paint blemishes

  Ph1 172.
I purchased my car the other day and after rinsing i noticed that there are what look like paint blemishes all over the bonnet that no amount of washing or shampooing will remove. The marks look like hard water marks or like dirty water that has dried up. What is the best way of getting rid of these marks? Clay? Polish?

Cheers

edit: If clay is the answer where other than the internet can i get some clay and lube?

If you need to clay it, Halfrauds do the Meguirars Smooth Surface Clay kit, about 20 quid.

Could do with pictures to provide a better suggestion though lad, if that's possible?

Hard to tell what it is without seeing it in the flesh - could be etched by bird poo which you'll struggle to remove

Claying would be my first step followed up by some Autoglym Super Resin Polish both readily available at Halfrauds and see how you get on.

It looks like water has been left to stand for ages and it has dried up and left these marks all over the bonnet and roof. It's only happened in these places and i'm guessing that's because they are the only flat areas water could sit. As you move to the front of the bonnet they occur less and less.

Classic water/fallout/sap marks, left behind when the car dried naturally.

Clay is not necessary, unless you can feel it needs it. As Yin suggested, Super Resin Polish followed by a decent sealent will see you right.

Bloody hell it's hard work getting these marks out. I spent 90 mins on the bonnet and it still has some marks on it :( Although in fairness it is miles better! Going to finish it off tomorrow.

If you are still struggling, you could try Megs Scratch X from Halfords, which is a fair bit more abrasive than SRP so it should clear them up for you.

Don't worry though, you won't do any damage by hand, it too will probably need a couple of hits to remove the marks.

That has to be fallout/sap marks then. No way would just standard hard water marks be so difficult to get rid of with SRP. Unless you have sealed and waxed over the top of them. But even then, I would be very surprised!

Definitely haven't waxed over them myself, can't comment on the previous owner. I'm going to give it another going over this weekend. If no better i'll try something other than SRP.

If you get some of these marks after washing a car with a coat of wax already on it - will a run-round with QD be enough to get it off?

Yes dear boy it should ...or after washing and before drying (whilst the cars still wet) spray qd over the area your about to dry :) is much less hassle then drying, then using QD afterwards.

Happy days, thought I'd be in for a tough battle against the paintwork again lol

Washed the car the other day then the sun appeared out of feckin nowhere so had some of the rinse-water dried on
- will buff it out on the next wash with some QD :)
