Paint defect, scratches

So, on my cup spoiler these marks have always been there, but there have always been things to do ahead on the list, it's now the spoilers turn..

It's a cup spoiler, so I guess a previous owner has had it sprayed Flame red. Are the marks due to poor prep, or actual scrathes somehow?

Anyone have an idea of cost to spray a cup spoiler flame red?

I can't remember exactly but I'm sure I paid about £70 quid to have my cup spoiler sprayed.

£150 is spot on if you're getting the quality. There's a place in new forest. S&m paint and repair. Only heard good things from them

Just had a quote of £80 by Auto Cosmetics in Gosport. Their FB shows work on a few high end motors so should be good quality.

It's the prep work though, you're not painting a spoiler, you first need to fix the shitty job then paint it.

Finally got round to kind of sorting this. Should be booked in for after christmas. Had some laughable quotes of £400 etc. One bodyshop said can't you go down a scrapyard and take a spoiler from one of those. 'Son, this is a cup spoiler i'll have you know..'

Lol, i had my full 1.3 nova sr sprayed about 15 years a go for £400, and the arches repaired, and it was a pretty good job.

Im booked in for the spoiler on Jan 26th, and considering getting the front bumper sprayed as I bought it used, described as 'mint', which it definitely isnt. The same guy has quoted between £140-£220 for the front bumper depending on prior condition.

So this is booked in for Thursday to be painted, going to remove it tomorrow evening (probably somehow snap it). However, I need the car on Thursday, is it safe to drive without the spoiler? Eg will it have protection from water, any electrical components flying around?

Asking before I remove it as otherwise I may have to just take the car to him, pay extra and arrange a lift. Thanks

Under the cup spoiler are some 'holes' but I'm pretty sure there's nothing underneath that would get damaged. What I did was tape up the holes, and wrap up the cup spoiler cabling in some tape and fastened it down so it wasn't flying about. I wasn't driving the car, but just wanted to avoid it getting wet overnight whilst the spoiler was off.
IMHO you'll be fine without the spoiler on. It's an easy job to remove too, so may aswell do it yourself. (Literally 6 screws from underneath and 2 clips which you'll probably break).

Top tip, to avoid scraping anything put a microfiber cloth under the area where the boot opens/edge of the roof. Then with the boot up all the way remove all the screws. Then you can easily pivot the spoiler to unclip the hose/plug and lift it out. Just be careful if you do lower the bootlid as it can get trapped. Either this, or perch inside and do it from the backseats with the bootlid down.

Yeh I just taped everything up on mine and drove it for over a week, in rain, with no problems.

I presume you'll be removing the brake light too. Do this from behind with a pen through the hole. I just have images of you cracking it by using a knife/screwdriver.

This, although even poking through from the back I still couldn't get it out, lost my temper and ended up smashing the light anyway.

Got 4/6 torx screws out, but the bottom left and right are a bit rusty and just rounding, any tips?
