Paint Depth Gauge

Car  172 Cup 181bp 165lbf
Does Anyone Have a Paint Depth Gauge I Could Possibly Borrow (With Deposit) or Even Buy. Saying This, Just Borrow In Your Person For About 15 Min To Make Some Measurements??

Located Near Camberley, Surrey.

Adam: A decent one over £100
Peanuthead: are you about tomo to get some measurements?

I am about between 5-7 ish the next few days if that works for you? Otherwise I'm around most Friday evening or weekend.

Is it ok to pop round at 1700? I take it the machine works in the dark as its off a magnet isn't it. PM me your details and we can go from there. Cheers mate, much appreciated

Yeah it's a pd8 so no light required. I will pm you now.
Always happy to help if I can, be it reading paint or fault codes on the rs tuner.

Well with an average reading of 160 um...I'm more than impressed with the paint Renault supply. I think the lowest reading was 130 um and the highest pushing 200 um. Myself and Steve are just wondering if its picking up the fine layer of 6 months old wax mind. This said it will be a satisfactory job getting the very few/faint high-line swearls out along with confidence in the paint.

Huge thanks to Steve for helping a fellow CS Member out, very nice guy! I worked out we was ranting on for about 2 hours lol

Cheers again mate, hugely appreciated.

I took readings on a Mazda as low as 70 today, f**king Japanese cars are dreadful lol the Renault at the unit was all over 110.

I've heard Honda's have crap paint. TBH I was expecting roughly 110-120 um...Not as high as 160, pushing 200um

I was blown away with those readings. Like I mentioned, I'm not sure if 6 months old wax is adding say 30 um? What do you think?

I would have though that too. I mentioned to Steve, being a french car I would have thought the paint finish would be on the cheap side. Obviously not

Glad I could help, must say your car was very nice. And good readings with no signs of any past damage plus the swirls are very light.

I didn't realise till I went in the house that we'd been chatting that long! Just glad you still made poker

No mate it's minimal. The new Ceramic sealants add microns.

Renault is one of the hardest paints due to the "Hard" clearcoat lacquer. It is cheap it's just a plain b**ch to correct without good time spent.

Ever tried a proper detail on racing blue? Proper hard paint lol

Think they started using the "Hard" clearcoat lacquer around 2000 onwards. I remember doing an R26 and thinking WTF! Found out through work they use a very hard lacquer.

Yours is probably thicker than normal paint from all times its been bumped and repainted chris. :p

BTW are you moving to Tunisia soon if you are going to be piloting for a Tunisian airline like you mentioned the other day?

I shall be mate. I have a job flying for the A320/A321 for NouvelAir for a year so I'm just getting the Clio all prepared for storage. Even bought a £150 cover for it

Fair play mate, glad to hear its not getting sold.

when do you leave so we can arrange a pint/nandos/whatever first?

p.s take a lot of immodium, english people in tunisia always seem to end up with the trots for the first month from what friends have told me, lol

I leave the UK on the 15th Feb for a month then come back for 3-4 weeks then out again for about a year.

Nandos/Drink sounds good. I'll try and get something sorted and send out a group invite on Facebook. How's that?

And of course it's not getting sold. Its one of the cleanest Cups out there :P

and PMSL for the Immodium...Something to look forward too lol

Shame its the 15th as bedford is on the 16th so you could have come if it was just one week later.

Have to meet up before you go and then again when you are back for the 3-4 weeks to hear how you are getting on then mate.

Dont suppose you will be back by 7th March for llandow?

sounds good. I'll keep updated through Facebook. I'll arrange a meeting soon

I dont have exact dates as of yet with what the plan is.

All I know is first month is swimming pool test, jumping down slides, 18 hours simulator, uniform fitting, airside ID etc then back for a few weeks while the paperwork gets sorted

Sounds like fun mate.

What happens at the end of the first year? Or is it a case of you just need to get some proper commercial hours under your belt first and worry about what you do next later on?

With you being so light I hope they are paying you extra for all that fuel you will save them!

Make sure you bag up with those stewardess's some of them are pure filth I hear and you dont want to catch anything!

thats basically it, get the hours then come back here and walk into an Airline experienced on type (A320)

You would have thought so with the fuel/my little 65kg haha

Looking most forward to the hosties, prob more than the flying haha

Just remember to only put your knob up the girl ones even if you are drunk, there is a scarey number of male stewardesses these days!

Well I started on the paint correction today, only done the driver side and here are the results. TBF the car is in fairly mint condition anyway, I just want it PERFECT not mint lol

Excuse the iPhone pics

Looks like a nice little show car.

Presumably being a "cup" designation on one of these means its fragile like a piece of china and hence not to be used on rallys or trackdays etc and just to be polished endlessly? :p

Seriously though, looking good just dont get too attached to it to track it that is what they are for!

It's in too good condition to track track it. I wouldn't mind the occasional one or two though since its all ready to go
