Painting the front grills

Im thinking of painting both fronts grills black, they are currently grey but looking a bit dull. Is it worth sanding first using primer before spraying?

i just sprayed the grills on the wife's scenic and just cleaned them and sprayed them with plasti kote

I didnt on mine just washed them down and i think they have turned out well.

its not going to hurt you, helps the primer key into the plastic, use an etch primer eats into the plastic better too.
