Painting wheels yourself....

What should i use? Not looking for a top notch finish, just going to paint my spare track wheels up in white.

Some kind of primer, paint and laquer?

Will they need sanding at all?

I have just done my Turbines in white mate, and am just waiting for my Eagle F1's to turn up

Get some P38 metal filler
Grey Primer (a can per wheel)
Brilliant white appliance paint (A can per wheel)
Clear Laquer (A can per wheel)
Some 800 W&D
Some 1200 W&D
Some 1500 W&D
a tube of relatively fine Rubbing compound to get rid of the orange peel effect
A bottle of cellulose thinners to clean wheels before painting
Masking tape and newspaper to save your tyres

I think thats about it

Bet it doesnt turn though! lol. Look mint though i must say...

So i want to:-

P38 metal filler
Sand
Clean wheels
Prime wheels
Sand down
White Paint
Laquer

done....

Not had it off the axle stands yet lol,
Backend is still in the air awaiting its new discs, pads and bearings.

Thats about right mate, I didnt bother sanding down between primer and white

I went down a simpler route...

Wire brush
Coarse sandpaper
Halfords primer
1200 W&D
Halfords topcoat

But I wasn't really worried about the finish, lets face it, they're going sideways into a gravel trap at some point in their lives :D

Everyone is goign to so much effort.

Damp cloth....wipe over
2 cans of black hammerite.....spray 4 wheels

As you can see i didn't even mask off the tyres

Done 3 track days now, and got a few chips, but thats only cus i chuck them about and chuck tools on them, and they live outdoors in the garden.

Cost me less than a tenner and look more then good enough for track use

yup they do!! ^^ do it smokeys way... def the right way 2 go!

Do it smokey;'s way if you want them for every day use, if its just for track use i really wouldn't bother, you go over a kerb sideways or inot a gravel trap and thats your godknowshowlong paint job ****ed

Top man,

Each of my wheels had 5 coats of each........primer, paint & laquer.

Fingers crossed they will hold up till I get my new rims then im gonna stick these on the RT
