Panel Filters Again

I am gonna get myself a new exhaust and am pondering replacing my standard panel filter while I am at it. I am not interested in induction kits. I have searched this forum on the subject & get varied responses. Some say there is no difference except maybe noise. Some say better midrange & top end. Some say better bottom end. Some say they have lost bhp. So what is the truth regarding:

NOISE

BHP

POWER DELIVERY

I swapped mine before I got an exhaust, and the differences are barely noticable, they could in fact just be in my head. It was a little more boomy at hight revs and felt to pull a little easier from lower revs but that was pretty much it.

I had the exhaust fitted and at the time had the OE filter in due to the car going to Renault for some work, with the exhaust it felt a little weak at top end so I dropped the pipercross back in and all seems fine. Dont know why I took it out really, Renault dont seem to mind.

Thats what I thought anyhow.

Dam good point mate.

I just had my 12k service, but didnt get the filter swapped as mine is washable. Instead of £175.00 it cost me £130.00. Thats a bigger saving than the cost of the filter.

Ive run both on my valver and there is very little in it if anything. Id say the replacement panel filter gives a little more low down pulling power but the engine seems to strain a little approaching 7k whereas with the induction on it feels more free revving. Ive put my K&N IK back on as the weather is colder so more cold air is flowing into the engine bay anyway. Ill put the panel back on in spring. Also got a Magnex CAT back to keep it company!

The noise is nice with the IK on, not too loud just nice.
