Parada Spec2's..... A month on.

  Trophy #473
Always found it good when people post there view on products, so thought I may aswell do it myself.

following on from my initial thread:

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=252412&highlight=paradas

Its now been a month and about 1500 (720 of that is motorway miles, i went to corwall a few weeks back) the other 780 miles have been going to and from work everyday on twisty B roads.

So, how are they coping?

Not very well at all. I knew they would wear very quickly but not this quickly, Pics will follow but to be honest they are just TO soft for road use. I was hoping that they would be more resiliant to scrubing out the tyre walls but they are just as bad if not worse than my PE's. I do drive very hard on a daily basis and tyres and brakes do get a fair share of abuse.
The Problem I see is they are just to soft for abrasive british roads, I have somehow managed to rip chunks..... and I mean chucks out of the tread, especily on the outer edges of the tyre, I have gashs running round the outside of the tread on the tyre wall, Not good. Pics will follow later this evening as my explaination just doesnt explain how bad, and verging on dangerous, my tyres are after 780 miles of commuting.
Now its no the tyres fault, its just a combination of my driving style and the roads i drive, but in future I will most deffinatly stick to a harder compound.

On a good note, OMG they grip so well its unreal now they have a few miles on them, tripoding is so easy to do! especialy on high speed corners, I have a video filmed from my mates car and the back wheel is just in the air all the round the bend.

That is all.

  guess, but yal be wrong
after that comprehensive report, i ain't getting any now, i contemplated getting them, but not now,

cheers for the report

dont want to put anyone off, Im sure on a smooth road/track they would be very impressive, but on rough undulating tarmac roads (pretty much all uk roads) they could be better, but its the nature of the tyre.

area around mine is crap because of all the shops and congestion, it's that bad i takes me about 5 mins to get out of my street, so the council don't really have any time to fix the roads. don't worry, you haven't put me off, just warned me of how they handle.

What's the wet handling like?

I'm surprised that you found PE2s had sidewall wear - I thought they were supposed to be stiffer than most of the others?!

I was thinking about PE2s as my summer/track tyres next year as the Toyos I had this year were shiiiiit lol

a quick pic on the phone,

wet handling isnt very good, but again thats the nature of the tyre too. for £40 a tyre Im sure thew would be awome for track days and im diffenatly going to put them on my hybrid.

i found the Paradas EXACTLY the same as you. EPIC dry grip, but equally epic wear rate... mine lasted 6k. and they really were buggered by then!

i stick with the PE2's because imo they are 80% as good in the dry and 100% better in the wet. they also wear a lot better, although i never tore chunks out of my paradas!! lol. good going

How come there in such a mess. They should'nt split like that. That takes me back to the days of re-moulds...lol

i dont know, they do get alot of abuse but it was only recently that i had a very spirtied run home one night and by the time i got home this had happened. its strange because thats the drivers side tyre, passanger side is alot better although it gets all the round about abuse!? dodgy batch?

I don t think they should be that bad after such low mileage . Ever heard of 'drive it like you stole it' you haven t stolen it have you?;)

Just thought id share with you my opinion of these tires... I have had these on my cooper s mini for about 5 months, covering about 5000 miles, and the fronts are half warn now. This includes a session at the nurburgring (very spirited driving) a lap of cadwell park, a lap of donington park and numerous spirited back road blasts. I have experienced the tread melting on the rear tires but it moulds back into shape after they cool down.

I dont know whether it is the larger profile that is causing the sidewall wear, but i find this very surprising, are they inflated to the correct pressures?

Im running 215 40 17s, which have experienced none of the bad symptoms described above.

Hope that is of some help.

PS i find the levels of grip awesome in the dry, and average in the wet. The only downside to them i find is the noise when they start to wear is louder than most.

im running them at 32psi, i had them on 30 for the first 200 miles, but upped it back to 32 after that. tracking was done when i had the tyres, fitted 0.5 degress out toe out as per Renault sports recomendation.

You checking the psi cold???

As 31 cold gave me 36 or 37 hot??

That photo shows delaminating, not good!

Yeah it seems unusual, the parada's on mine have taken a lot of hammer and they have not shown any bad/unusual signs of wear. Another thing i liked about them is the way they improve the ride quality - most likely due to their soft compound!

mite try R888's when these are dead.... which maybe quite soon lol.

Which are considerably softer! :S

Had your trackin done recently?

yeah i know :) interested to see just quickly I can go round corners.
yep pressures checked from cold normaly. I just like testing tyres.

just to clarify, pressures and tracking are all perfect.
