got a broken parcel shelf at the mo, bough a peice of mdf to make one( so that it wud withstand having 6x9s) and now have no idea how to make one? any found any easy solution? cheers ryan
tbh i was gonna make one but i looked at my standard shelf and it was bloody heavy duty stuff! instead i went down to the scrapyard and got a 2nd hand shelf and used that (so i can sell car with uncut shelf). Was really thick (10mm) plenty for 6x9s. Covered it in acoustic cloth for the "stealth shelf" look too. Looking in from the back looks no different to a normal shelf, but with added loudness
If you got the time its a good to make one up my one you could not tell what was in it when you looked in the back window.
But if like most people you dont have a lot of time then you can get one pre-cut on the web at about £60-£100. Go on have a go if you get stuck can email you with the pics from this one as we took one for each step just in case.
alrite fatboy, no idea mate. anybody know to get round the problem of making the shelf from wood, which means that u cant get a very good fit against the boot door? if u understand me? u wanna tell me how to make one then simon 1? cheers mate
use some 10mm plasic rod from a DIY store and u can cable tie it in place. You can no nails a piece of mdf to the bottom rear edge near the boot door and do alot of sanding to make the fit flush just like the original using the original as a template.
I was going to make one for my componants but it is no good for audio quality mdf or not
ive put mine behind the rear door panels in mdf and tweeters where the 10cm rear speakers were supposed to go
some of that audio carpet it looks nice and lets sound pass through without obstructing. You can get various colours, buy it from halfords and the such
My car never came with a parcel shelf so I had to make one from trial and error (more error than I would like)
I made one for my old car of the old shelf and it looked perfect and fitted great. The one I have now is a bit too small so has a tendency of falling into the boot. DOH!
You can buy stealth shelfs for £70.
I dont need anything majour for my rear speakers as my sub is bassey enough. Just need something for the mid range.
Im trying to locate some adapters to expand the size of the speaker you can fit in the rear. Im sure Ive seen them on the net before....
