well i would be able to afford too have two cars at the same time, would have to pay insurance and everything all at once, so need to know what i should expect part ex?
As a part-ex , I would expect you will be offered somewhere in the region of £4-4.5k. Depends really on the dealers mark-up on the car hes selling you.
Sell your own motor private then look for a new one, youll get a much better deal all round. Helps though if you can borrow a car for a week or so. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
What they give you for your car is irrelevant...its the difference between their offer to you for yours, and the cost of the new car that matters...the "cost to change" your car.
Dont forget though that theres a new clio coming up and that will affect prices. Also, dealers will try and give as little as possible, see how much you can barter off the 172 and then see what you could get private.
I have seen cars of "S" and "T" reg be valued at £10!!! I wouldnt mind, but some were immaculate cars, with little mileage, but if its "too old" to go on the dealers forecourt then they have to sell at auction, therefore limiting what they can get for it.
Go private, best advice I can possibly give.
Ive seen a 51 plate 172 with 40K offered for £6.5K, but it was an import, and looked like itd had a bit of a hard life...so go careful with dealers.
whatever they offer you m8, walk away. They will only offer you their best price when youve refused everything they offer you whilst your there. I got an extra 500 quid for my 172 by doing that with the local stealer
