Paypal Hacked

  Peugeot 306 HDi
I've just found someone has hacked my PayPal, added a new email address and then spent about £30 on downloaded games in dollars. What do I do? I've emailed PayPal, changed my password and will remove my car details for now, but how do I reclaim the money?

Thanks

The only thing you really can do is contact Paypal mate, absolute sh1tter for you though, i change my password every month on it as was getting really paranoid about it.

I'm trying at the moment - just music though. I can't remove the card/account details because a transaction is pending apparently.

I may just close the account once sorted...

Contact your bank and get the direct debit cancelled for it if there is one pending. Which bank are you with? I know ive got insurance that covers identity theft etc..

Natwest. Got through to paypal and they said they will deal with it and recover the money within ten days.

Good job I check my emails every day - they've taken only around 50 dollars so far. What kind of tard causes all this hassle for £25 and a few download games. I am really, really, peeved and have lost all confidence in Internet money transactions within minutes.

i opened a seperate current account for my paypal,

i have no cash in it, all i do is when ive bought somthing i go and put whatever money i owe in it..........

Yeah your quite lucky that it was only $50 to be honest, have heard some horror stories about this kind of thing. The guy/girl is obviously a complete moron as you say tho!! Glad you got it sorted mate.

That sounds a good idea actually. Once sorted, I'll have to do that I think.

Thanks. Just have to hope that I do get the money back now. Is it the sort of thing the police should know about?

This is exactly why I stopped using Paypal. I had £1000 removed from my bank account 3 years ago.

Well I shall definitely do some re-jigging when I get the money back. Until then I will not be using it.

You say hes a moron, but maybe its a better idea than doing hundreds.

If you hadnt spotted that email, you might not have noticed the money going from your account. You'd be sure to notice a much larger amount.

I didn't say he/she was a moron, just a tard. Naturally, I'm annoyed that whoever it is has obviously accessed my computer and taken my money that I have worked for. But there you go, that's life.

I agree, if that was his/her method, it was clever. But then why not buy something worthwhile?

I agree mate. Its probably a 12year old sat in his bedroom with geek hacking powers.

I use PayPal a lot and this sort of stuff does worry me but I cant stop using it. Although I do have 2 accounts, 1 for PayPal.

Mine is secure - very secure - but typically it was the only password I forgot to change when I last changed them all.

No one "hacked" into your account

You were just stupid enough to get an email saying 'please verify your account details' (which was a fake/phishing email) and you happily logged in to find that you didnt login, but your details were just emailed to the fraudster.

No banks or anything emails you to verify details.

Credit me with some intelligence. I did not do that; they had accessed my account with my password and added a new email address, then carried out transactions. How they got my password I don't know - I'm just deep scanning my computer to find out.

I NEVER even open emails from my bank or PayPal, just in case, let alone click anything. I only open emails from people I know or if I can identify where they came from. Try being less judgmental.

  Shhh
dont worry, my email and ebay was taken on tuesday, unsure how as the secret question answer had nothing to do with the question..

random.

When they hacked my account I was annoyed to discover from the bank that they had incorrectly entered the CVC number on all occasions yet the bank still cleared the transactions. Don't really see the point of the CVC if an incorrect entry is ignored.

Hmm well the police are coming to take a statement at some point tonight (I only phoned for a crime number lol. All my passwords and personal details are changed on every site. The inconvenience was perhaps the worst bit. Over an hour on the phone, various emails etc.

I think I sussed their plan; new email address being set up suggests that they meant to get all receipts etc. sent to them, but cocked it up. Money went missing off my card and directly out of my bank, so I'm assuming they intended to secrete it out little by little. I'll probably never know, but I hope karma gets them.
