PC Gurus - Building PC on Budget

  Punto/Clio GTT
hey, we could do with a new pc, both of ours are very dated now.

we need new tower case with mobo, ram, psu, graphics card, cpu.

only specific thing ide like is 1gig of ram or more if it fits in the budget.

budget is around £350-£400.

our current spec is amd athlon 2200 (1.8gig), 512ddr ram, ati 9600 xt, so obviously anything will be an improvment.

cheers for any help

If you can build it yourself go for it, much more value for money, but then you have to buy the operating system as well, e.g(windows XP), so up to you really

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Building your own isn't value for money any more - no chance. Go for a Dell or even see if you can pick up a HP dc7700 for that money, they're fairly good but you'd need a low profile PCI-E graphics card to go with - still my favourite off-the-shelf box though.

i built one recently and if it wasn't for my uber graphics card i would have been circa £350 for a decent set up imo.

search my threads in technology and you'll find it. may help in making your decison FM.

Whats better at the moment, amd or intel? ive always been an amd user.

what processor would you recommend i go for, is the price difference in dual core and 64(?) that much?

You should build one yourself get exact components you want, just finished my build cost £1100 lol but yea you dont want dell rubbish and its good to be able to upgrade instead of buying whole new system which youll have to do with a pc world pc.

i built my last one, but some of these prices from dell and that are pretty damn good, i dont think i could build one for cheaper going to ebuyer or something, plus im on a budget :\

i aint one to upgrade a pc anyway, this pc is a good 4 years old and it aint been touched, i rather just buy an entire new pc when the time comes otherwise its like having an expensive hobby :\

Yea i know what you mean ,if your just surfin the net and things then anything from dell should be fine i noticed you can get just a tower for around 300quid and keep ur monitor and keyboard etc.

i wnt amd dual core as they are as cheap as chips and i doubt unless you are some sort of uber geek you'd notice the difference between amd and intel tbh.

but def go dual core imo. mine seems to work really well. very pleased :)

i got all my stuff from microdirect.co.uk very good price compared to OCUK and ebuyer.

clicky

like i said i specced up a nice dual core amd, with 1gig of ram and 250gig H/D, decent cd/dvd burner, quality case and good mobo for like circa £350. you could easiyl trim a bit of it as i did this about a month ago and get all that and a decent graphics card for £350 imo.

I was in currys superstore at the weekend and although they have soem chepa pc's the stuff they come with appears to be utter shite and the specs ain't thta hot when you look at them.

the main thing for me though is the fact my pc has no shite put on it by dell or whoever built it. it is my own little creation thta has no aol crpa on it and nothing i do not want. :)
