Pc Help Needed

Come home from Work today and the PC wouldn't start up, it just kept restarting. It would come up with option to start in safe mode + others but whatever you selected the machine just wouldn't boot up.

I have a HP Pavillion PC and used the System restore that it has built in, it said it would delete all installed programmes but WOULD keep data which i thought would be great as i really didn't want to lose pictures and songs as well as other important information i had saved. So I decided to do it. Done it all and now even though my Hard drive still has the same amount of space as before i can't find my files, the other user accounts I had set up all have theres bt not mine, which was the main account.

Has anyone else done this and know where to find them?? Al help appreciated,

erm , usual system restore things that are from hp , packard bell etc, put it back to factorey settings, so it wouldnt normally backup yer data.

try installing all xp updates n reseting , but i`d gues at uve lost all yer files

If it was a repair, it will sort windows issues out and not harm your data...a restore tho might do that OR restore windows and format your harddrive and therefore lose all your data. There are ways you could retreive deleted data but it rely isn't easy at all, need right software and people to do it.

Have you looked in recycle bin cos you can delete things but your harddrive wont show more space till u delete from recycle bin so your files might be in there or they might be still in their place but without your account. Go to windows explorer, select My Computer, C Drive, Documents and Settings and see if there are any foldrs resembling your account. Files may be in there or in your shared folder....

Thing is it said it would keep all data, It has kept stuff that was on my dads account (documents and settings) but not mine which was the main one everybody used. I thought maybe there would be a folder with it all in but i can't seem to find one. Its weird how its kept certain things, including some programmes.
Its also weird that i have no more extra room on My harddrive than i did before so surley it must all be on it somewhere.

I downloaded some programme from a torrent site called recover my files or something, which i tried last night but it was taken ages so i left it running though the night came down this morning and i think the PC restarted so i'll give it ago at lunch today!
