20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT
Rststevo said:i hate the 'pc vs mac' arguement, from the mac side usually, its like 'car vs clio' or 'food vs weetabix'
sn00p said:From the pc side it's usually "macs are one button overpriced w*nk" or some such nonsense, from a pc owner who's never been near a mac, yet alone used one.
Rststevo said:they certainly are overpriced, the arguement should be 'dell vs mac' or some other brand. anyway, its not pc vs mac, its more like windows vs osx, microsoft vs apple. is it me or is it more about slightly stuffy tweedy geeks vs consumerist free thinking liberal radicals?
maybe not.
maybe its just about 2 companies reaping millions out of built in obsolescence?
cliobuyer said:Macs are a fashion accessory nowadays, their purpose was for designers like me who ran programs like Photoshop on them. Now, PCs run the same programs so we made the switch years ago. Some design houses still cling on because they don't like change, or want to look cool, but from a non-biased perspective i don't see an actual role for them.

Mac's are sh*t though lol we only ever have trouble from them at work!
Gweebs said:Especially now windows runs on IntelMac's.
sn00p said:Overpriced to who? PC owners who upgrade this and that every 2 months end up spending more than they would on a mac anyway!QUOTE]
i totally agree with that, but not everyone who owns a pc upgrades all the time. i've spent around a grand each (self build desktop and a laptop) in the past, 5 years say, both are still very quick, and the mac alternative at both times of purchase was twice the price. I've upgraded neither, aside from more hard disk space for the desktop. So to me, that's definately overpriced.
But as has been said, now macs can run windows and pcs can run osx, there's little difference aside from the shiney white case. add to that the fact that, in my case, for what it is used for, programs are near enough identical, and files are cross compatible (illustrator, photoshop, acrobat, indesign etc.) the choice really comes down to cost, and when you're a poor ex student, thats a big consideration!
there are still plenty of design agencies who run macs, just pick up any copy of design week, creative review or grafik. they're also the same people that look achingly hip, tend to wear black rimmed glasses and suit jackets. i know, i've been around them long enough! (thats a generalisation, but i think u get the point).
So basically, pcs are great, macs are great, just depends how deep your pockets are.

Loony said:I do wonder if some PC owners have a complex. Dont see constant threads of PC related questions and problems being filled with mac owners muttering about how sh*t PC's are however someone asks something about a mac and you get some really constructive comments from PC owners . You dont like mac's, you've bought a PC, good for you now STFU and get on with it.

Rststevo said:its because pc users go 'yep, i've got a pc' but there's that percieved air of smugness and self satisfaction of mac owners that gets up people's noses. like BMW drivers
Loony said:But do you go on BMW and Golf forums to merely how sh*t/overpriced/pointless/ill advised (fill in as appropriate) YOU feel THEIR purchase was ? Thats the point I'm making. If it really is each to their own why bother saying anything.
Rststevo said:because if no one gave their opinion or outlook on anything, we'd be a nation of mutes
Roy Munson said:TBH I just think the Mac guys are under a different spotlight to the PC guys simply because they're in the minority. PCs are far more widely spread, and used by the majority. Macs are a bit more specialist and not so common. Ergo Mac posts are bound to stand out more, if that makes sense?
In all honestly, the vast majority of PC users are clueless gimps (in tech terms) who don't know anything about their virus ridden, malware invested machine. Yet they'll still sit there bashing away slagging off Macs - knowing next to nothing about either platform.
Gweebs said:Agree

Roy knows he is sh*t so he doesnt own a MAC. He is a wee bit simple. Poor lad
He plays FEAR with GOD mode enabled
