PE2's on track

  182cup & 172 racecar
If it's hot and dry the tread will start to move about, and then they will just go,brilliant if it's wet.

interested in this too.
I want to learn what my car does on the limit, and the track seems like the best place to do it.
As I understand it roadtires tend to burn up on track, so is there a trackday tire that gives the same handling as say PE2 or PS3's?

I used mine at donny when it was wet/drying, and the grip levels were useless over 888's. Much more lively lets say.

Is there a time limit on editing posts?

Anyway, given the choice, if you could get a set of PE2s for £150 at 15", and your car was to be used rarely, and when it is, most on a track, and your wheels would be your only set and so would need to be driven home on, would you buy the PE2's? Or would you go for something else like T1R's or V12's, or even spend more and get some track tyres (thinking more R1R's, RSR's than R888)? A set of T1Rs could be had for under £150, a set of R1R's will cost more like £300. Being a casual track day-er, I'm more interested in the financial side than outright performance.

Basically, what I'm saying is are the PE2s any good for track or should I get T1R's for the same (or less) money?

Well thats kinda stating the obvious, all round road tyres vs soft sticky track tyres!

very true, but compared to on the road, the pe2's were rubbish. They will obviously hold up better with standing water. Maybe i've got so used to track tyres now that I need to adjust drivng style on the road tyres on track. Plus my pe2's were 16's not 15's like my track wheels, so not a fair comparison.

Are the t1r anything like the px4? If so the pe2s are a lot better in the wet. As jonny stated tho, the pe2 is a compromise to the likes of a 888. Good fun mind :)

So as you say you want cheap i'd say just spank a set of T1R's.. Then when you do get the chance to try proper track tyres (assuming you haven't already) you will straight away buy a 2nd set of wheels for them ;)

I ran PE2's on my first Track day I did, They were very good but did suffer with the Tread Blocks shifting and blistering on the edges.

That said I did a 1/2 Day open Pit at Brands Hatch and still had plenty of tyre left for the drive home.
