I only get that figure when stuck in traffic which wrecks the mpg value. I find that on long drives not thrashing my car i can get between 32-34mpg, using 5th gear on country roads etc. In town ive seen as low as 19mpg but thats just after ive filled the car up as the mpg figure moves very quick. However, I have seen 43mpg on a long drive with my parents in the car, without any serious revving!

Hope this is some help

Just been on a long run, typically 80-85 on motorway and shifting up a gear at between 2 and 2.5K revs in town, and got 40 mpg. Try shifting at 2K, it made a massive difference on mine. Normal driving tend to get ~32-33mpg, booting it ~28-30mpg.

Sounds way to low that unless your doing very short journeys.

Give it a decient service ie new filter and oil and air filter.

Has it has the cambelt done reciently?

Mine normally sits at 38-40mpg

worst Ive got on a tank was 35mpg. Doing 50 miles a day, sitting between 60 and 80mph.

think you may have problems either that or youve got lead lined shoes!! lol

Get on a clear A road and start coasting along at 40. Then reset ur average consumption and see what it starts reading.

I wouldnt take too much notice of the trip computer TBH. Its not all that accurate and its only giving you an average. As someone else has said try resetting it when you are cruising on the motorway and see what it says.

Mine always averages 25 mpg on the trip computer but when Ive been on a long run I easily get 35 mpg.

Round the towns i get about 33mpg, and cruising at about 70-80 will see 40mpg on the motorways. Although i did a round trip to bluewater at the weekend and drove like a fanny at 60mph there and back and got 50mpg :D

By the way i drive a 1.6 so shouldnt be too much difference.

PS Edded what difference would the cam belt make?

Just checked on Car (1.6 16v clio) computer it says 21.7 mpg, done 155 miles and average speed 9.8.

The only thing I can think of it is because I only drive around 6 miles a day to work which is in traffic & it is a new car.

Q: How do you reset trip computer on 54 plate clio?

Cheers :D..

If the cambelt hasnt been replaced and the cams timed correctly then the engine might not be getting enough air.

I only mentioned it as its a Mk1 so could be close to the milage/age to get it replaced.

While running in i was getting 26... how bad is that?!! i reset it when i went to the NEC for the bike show... average speed of 82 on the motorway got me 32mpg. its now sticking around 31-32 commuting to work. pretty chuffed wiv that

Yup, 31 - 32 for me as well, but seen 23 to 34 MPG depending on what Im doing.

....how stupid is it though that when you reset the trip, all your MPG average etc resets as well!
