Ph-duck begins...

It may be a little early to begin this thread as the car is not going to be delivered untill September, but the project has already begun in the form of collecting parts and todays work, the painting of badges.

Thank you to Dyno for the badges, which were not only free, but he didnt even want money for the postage! This is the badges as they arrived, they are dCi badges from a mk3 clio which had been painted black, and as Dyno said himself, not very well and unfortunately a couple of the clips were broken but I have a plan for sorting that.

So first things first was a trip to halfords to get everything I needed to paint them:

Next thing was to strip off the paint and to remove the 'lovely' texture ready to be primered, I used Halfords Plastic Filler primer doign thin layers every approx 15minutes:

and this is as they stand now, both primered and waiting for painting:

More to come over the next few weeks and months!

Never seen that Filling Primer in my Local Halfords and really need some as I have a few Scratches in Parts that I want to spray and obvioulsy want to get a smooth Finish.

What Car??

The primer was really good, very impressed with it. As for the car, its a 197 cup in white with Cup Spoiler and Recaros :D

Sounds like its going to be one tidy motor mate,

If you dont mind saying what has it set you back with the extras?

Lol, yeah, the spoiler is a bit marmite. I dont like marmite, but I think the Cup spoiler finishes it off a treat! Will also go well with other things I have planned

Its a bit of a joke tbh. I was looking for just the plain badges but got offered these and thought it would be funny to have dCi badges on the 197, badging it down to take the piss out of those people who badge theire dCi's and 1.2's etc up as Renault Sports.

Also some unsuspecting chav will think it really is a dCi lol

I don't think its a bad thing to do. No harm in doing so.

I think it'll look good.

Lol at you two.

PSautoshine, I know its not something everyone would do, would like, but I like down-badging.

What happens when you come up against a real dCi and get owned?

Just let the man have his car the way he wants it!

Dont worry haz, i know its going to be a marmite car ;)

Why would he get owned?... a dCi vs a 197 Cup?... errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ok.

most people wont, but then most people wont even notice the diffuser... lol. as I said down badging is as much for chavs at traffic lights as it is a piss take of those people who badge-up! oh and I dont want to paint the renaultsport badges

Fair enough, I aint dissin' ;)

I think the 1.2, DCi badge thing used to work well on the Clio2, as to the unknowing eye all Clio2s look near enough the same to Joe Public. ie they think the car is a 1.2 with a spoiler on.
But the Clio3 197 is, shall we say a little more substantial looking than the rest of the range - I don't think many people will get fooled. Leave the renaultsport badge on - you'll only bust the clips when you pull it off.

Sounds good bar the cup spoiler your having on it (now I know why you said it looked really nice the other day ;) )

I hear you, but I'm doing it anyway, lol. I know not eveyone will be fooled, but its as much about the joke as it is anything else, also I dont want to paint the renault sport badges, but I think they look a bit naff left silver.

All I can say is reserve judgement, there are mods going to be done, to the car, and the spoiler itself, that I think will make it really work.

Haz-all this badge thing started about 4 years ago on yozza's 172cup.personally i like the way people colour the badges to match wheels etc.I had colour coded badges on my dynamique about 4 years ago.
Duckeatsport-i think your messin with perfection(although painting projects are enjoyable).hope you enjoy your car,it's probably exactly what car i'd go for if funds allowed.
what else are you doing? it's a car that i would consider nessercery to modify as there that good out the box;)
hope you don't scratch the paint gettin the old/new badges off.
