ph1 172 gearstick play (with video)

Decided I'd finally get a video of this and see if anyone knows what the problem is. Basically, in 1st and 3rd gear there is a LOT of side to side movement/play. 2nd and 4th are fine, as is 5th gear. I'll let the video explain the rest, but you can see when I select 1st and let the gearstick go, it settles where 3rd should be, and 3rd seems to settle where 5th should be. I've hit 3rd when going for 5th on more than one occasion, it's just lucky I haven't been going fast enough to over-rev it when it's went into 3rd. Want this sorting before getting the car on track though!

Also as far as back and forth movement on jerky throttle is concerned, there's virtually none, so I'm assuming the dogbone mount is in decent condition.

So, is this a simple fix? Or something worse? Any help appreciated, cheers guys!

  dan's cast offs.
ish...can be a bit of a pain to get the bush all the way in. other than that not bad, just make sure everything is clean when you start.

It is an arse and just seems too big. I squashed mine in using a socket and a trolley Jack and the circlip only just went in. Fiddly little git it is. I'm sure someone on here thought there's was in and the circlip pinged out. I resorted to that after noticing the one that came out had marks in the nylon from being squashed and was noticeably shorter. The small linkage is pretty cheap as well so you may as well do it at the same time as the nylon Bush that holds one end of it.

If you have the early type linkage you can find the pin at the end of the main linkage has worn but I found that by re-newing the bush and small linkage it was still vastly improved.

The early type linkage has a stretch boot not a cable tied fitment. I found some rubber grease made it a lot easier to remove.

Hmm, sounds like it could be a pig of a job lol. Then again I've not had a proper look at the linkages so I'm just guessing what you're both talking about.

Cheers though :) gives me a place to start looking. I'm assuming both the pin in the main linkage and the bush can be purchased as separate parts from Renault and doesn't come as part of a kit or anything?

Sounds like I'll need to do a bit of investigating and see what parts are worn. Will it be easy to tell if they're knackered? Never had a proper look at the linkages on clios, I'm used to cable selector setup on my DCI lol!
