PH1 172 high idle

My 172 has a stiff accelerator pedal and every now and again it'll idle at 2500 rpm.

I think the cable is sticking. Anyone know how much a new one is?

iirc it was something like 20 -25 quid when I bought mine, not too bad to fit, need to take off the rivers front wheel and liner to get to where it comes through the bulkhead. I think there is a guide on it

Thanks Burp.

I'll try greasing it first. Could just be corroded near the TB.

Just replace it mate, you will be surprised by the difference.

It could even be starting to fray at the pedal end and jamming up in the outer casing (Ive seen 3 cars do this)

It will either snap or stick wide open one day

I greased mine when this happened. It solved the problem... until the cable snapped on the M62. At rush hour.

Also having a similar problem. Local parts place doesn't stock one for the ph1 172 either and don't fancy putting a fortune into renaults pocket. Might make one out of hair

By the time youve faffed about you could have bought it and fitted it. lol

Buy it from Reno and dont be gay, its only 20 odd sheets ;)

I know this thread is years old just wondering if the new cable fixed your problem as I'm having the same as you

i had same issue, cable frayed and jammed, i was lazy though and simply ripped out the old cable from inside the sheath and fed some cheap ass cable through and chocolate blocked the end back on at the throttle body, worked a treat and cost peanuts. high idle gone :)
