PH1 172 (That isn't silver)

  Sunflower Ph1 172
I've been sat around all day a bit bored, so thought I'd start a project thread.

To give you a brief history of how I've come to this point, I started with a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-s. Yes, one of those underpowered, overpriced rusty things. I owned it for roughly 18 months, and it taught me a lot about what to, and what not to do, when making a car your own. Mainly: Don't rush into anything.

....or you end up with something mental, with one seat.

I've been a fan of the RS Clios for a while, but with a 2ltre, I had no chance of insuring one. Also, upon meeting f0xy, AdamAnderton, Jonff to name a few, I've learnt quite a lot about them. Finally one day I took the plunge, broke the ZS, and got myself a phase 1, in exactly the colour I wanted.

PE2s all round, completely standard, CD changer, and alloy bonnet.. loving somethiing a little more 'normal'.

I've decided the way forward is 'fast road', rather than wannabe track car. So, the first thing is the fix all the little niggly bits that are wrong, and attempt to make it a 'mint' example, with some slight improvements, while keeping it (relatively) respectable, and usable on the road.

So, stuff to be sorted:

  • New front bumper and grille, as these ones have a couple of cracks. (bought, just waiting for winter to pass and get it sprayed and fitted).
  • Phase 2 rear bumper (again, bought, just awaiting winter to pass and get it sprayed and fitted)
  • Couple of small dings in each door from carparks. (will be sorted when everything else is sprayed etc.)
  • Only recently the dephaser decided to give up on me, as it's rattling itself to death. (will be getting sorted, as well as a full service by f0xy when he has time).
  • A full professional detail
Plans (these will probably change as I'm making decisions on exactly which products to buy, and after getting some advice from you lot):

  • Coilovers - Something high quality with adjustable damping.
  • Matched Inlets
  • RS Tuner - not decided on map
  • a set of "show" wheels, so I can drop it on it's arse when I want, and just make it look pretty.
  • Cat-Back - undecided, probably BTB if I can be bothered to fork out on one.
  • pending money, and whether there is a decent kit available at a sensible price in 12-18months... A Supercharger
More than anything, I'm just looking for advice, tips and tricks.

:)

I think it tidies up the rear end a lot better. I love the ph1 front end, but the rear is just a bit boring. I was thinking of powder coating the F1s a dark gray or something, but I'm still undecided.

Black ph1's look great with black f1's

Look forward to seeing it develope

TBF.. there isn't going to be much happening over winter, apart from buying coilies and little things. most, if not everything when it starts to dry up/warm up.. then again, I'm sometime impatient, and will prob just whack the coilies on straight away.

First things, first - new Dephaser pulley, cambelt and aux kit.

Look forward to seeing this progress. I'm not a fan of the ph2 bumper idea though.

Ph1-172 sat on its arse (within reason) looks awesome... try before you fit the ph2 bumper ;-)

Good luck with the project !

The idea is to have something that's versatile. fast road, yet can be dropped on it's arse and look good when I'm skint and want to save fuel.

very nice indeed :) i like that a LOT :)

Thank you, I like it too.

I knew you'd be all over this thread, lol ;)

My ph1 bumper is making a comeback, it's true what he says.

I think the rear end looks better with a phase 2 rear bumper, but as I have both, I can always swap and change I suppose.

Hmmmmm... will see lol

Will see?... Will DO more like.
